Sarah Palin Is a Long Distance Runner, Not a Train Wreck
Newser ^ | Jul 6, 09 | Michael Wolff

Posted on 07/07/2009 6:29:32 AM PDT by skimbell

Sarah Palin clearly believes that she has been wronged and that she is under concerted attack. She has decided not to relent, or curry favor, or soften her image, or resort to any defensive public relations tactics. She’s on the offensive...

She has dominated the postings for sure. She is the only one exciting the base right now. We should be beating Obama into the ground for all the extremist illegal crap he is pulling, but yet no one speaks. Sarah seems to be the only one who is willing to go on the offensive.

Feigning a train wreck might actually be a good thing. Maybe she’s been reading Sun Tzu’s The Art of War. Superficial weakness can be an effective tactical tool.

I dont think she’s feigning anything. She couldn’t even make it through one term as a governor, but everyone on FR thinks she should be president? She continues to prove how unelectable she is.

Please consider changing your screen name to "Astroturf".

She's been the second-most dominant news story in the current cycle.

Would you prefer to talk about the number one issue in the papers these days instead?

“Free” is right.
We are on the side of “free individualists”,
and oppose “elitists” no matter what party they are in.

Like her or hate her, she's the biggest draw in the currently rudderless, leaderless GOP.
She's a magnet for conservatives and the conservative movement. She's striking a chord that is resonating with people who have been frustrated with the GOP for the last few years.

Is she presidential material? Time will tell.

BHO couldn’t make it thru one term as Senator, yet he’s POTUS.
Sounds like Sarah is quite electable.

..... Exactly how “unelectable” might that be, sir? Allow me to re-phrase your statement:

“I don’t think [he’s] feigning anything. [He] couldn’t even make it through one term as [senator], but everyone on [Daily Kos] thinks [he] should be president.”

I’m referring, of course, to the current occupant of the White House.

Hey, I’m not arguing that Hussein Obama is qualified! He’s a joke. But what does that say about Sarah Palin? I think she’s a fine person and has some populist charm, but she’s not presidential material. As a previous poster pointed out, her popularity is largely a result of a “rudderless and leaderless” Republican Party. If the GOP weren’t such a weak and ineffective joke right now, Sarah Palin wouldn’t be the darling of FR.

Funny, you take it as “couldn’t make it” ...
I certainly don’t, I think was she did was due to her strength, not weakness...
She choose not continue, every other lack luster died in the wool pol like Mitt would have been terrified to resign and walk away. She just broke the chain they were using to beat her with and hold her back.

“she’s not presidential material”

By all means, please tell us who you think does.
Let me guess, he tried to buy the nomination last go round?

Wrong. No one. I dont see anyone on the horizon who is a principled conservative who can actually win. Not Romney. Certainly not Huckaphony.

Astronaut,

I was responding to your statement that Palin is “unelectable”. I disagree. She is physically attractive; she is telegenic. She is sharp-witted and fearless before the cameras. In an age when our political candidates are packaged and marketed to us like underarm deodorant and sexual enhancement pharmaceuticals, I think that she would have an excellent chance of winning with the right support team and enough funding. Frankly, if Barak Obama can be propelled into the White House, then I’d give even odds that it’s possible to get a cinder block elected president nowadays.

As far as qualifications go, that’s a different subject altogther. My personal opinion is that Palin need make no apologies for her political CV. She has a proven track record of executive success, both as a town mayor and as governor of a state. She enjoys high approval ratings among her constituency. Despite stupendous efforts on the part of their highly organized smear machine, the Dems have had ZERO success in making any of their spurious “corruption” charges stick. On that basis alone she was infinitely more qualified for the office than Obama.

Does Palin have a foreign policy background? No. Does she have an intimate grasp of global economics? No. So what? Neither did most of our previous presidents. That’s why presidents have staffs and executive departments consisting of thousands of career exprets and specialists. The entire knowledge base criticism was nothing more than a cynical campaign canard to discredit her.

I’m not trying to be acrimonious or insulting. Nor have I got Sarah Palin’s name tattooed over my heart. This whole screed of mine should be seen as an expression of my unhappiness and distaste about the fact that the Democratic smear machine succeeded in seizing and defining Palin’s public image in 08. One of her big jobs over the next four years will be to counter and erase that legacy.
