Millions hungry as (global) warming shifts seasons

In a new report, global aid agency Oxfam says impoverished communities like Nassapir are already being hit hard by the effects of global warming, including increased drought.

Without international funding to help them cope and tough targets for cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, the food, water, health and livelihoods of hundreds of millions of the world's poorest people will be put at even greater risk.

Oxfam says interviews it carried out with farmers in 15 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America show that seasons are shrinking in number and variety.

This is destroying harvests, pushing farmers to abandon traditional crops and causing widespread hunger -- which, the agency predicts, will likely be "climate change's most savage impact on humanity in the near future."

Rainfall is reported to be more erratic, shorter and more violent. Unusual weather events -- including storms, drier spells and fluctuating temperatures -- are happening more often. And farmers say winds and storms have got stronger.

"We think that 'changing seasonality' may be one of the most significant impacts of climate change for poor farmers, and that is happening now," said Oxfam program researcher John Magrath in the report.

It is a shame and a sham that anything and everything is virtually blamed on “globla warming”...

If it’s a greenhouse effect then no one should starve. My grandfather had a greenhouse in our backyard and we had fresh vegetables all year round.

That's all I need to know. Oxfam is a commie enclave.

All part of the incessant barrage of global warming disinformation. It is a natural occurrence, deal with it directly, not through CO2. It will be far cheaper,

That global warming is amazing stuff. We’re told here it is lengthening seasons, but in Africa it’s shortening them. Must be an alien intelligence, that CO2.

I’d like to see some global warming. I’m in the San Francisco Bay area and we’re not exactly baking. Don’t know the numbers, but I’ll bet we’ve had the coolest spring / early summer in decades.

...good point...if there truly is such a thing as global warming, then I’ll be able to have an orange grove in my back yard.

Maybe the Africans would be better off if they would spend more time on farming and peaceful occupations than constantly trying to kill each other.

Highest temperature ever recorded in many states was during the ‘30s; Oklahoma recorded a high of I believe 130 F or a little more.

But the larger point that too many people miss is that for every place that experiences a drought, there’s another northern location where all of a sudden you can grow fodstuffs...

Remember that when Leif Ericson discovered Greenland, folks moved there and started farming - and successfully for many years.

Here in Montana, I am waiting for a real summer. Our winters have moderated in the last several years but judging from last winter we may be going back to what you expect from Montana winters. The current temperature is now 59 degrees which is rather cooler from what you would expect in July. Global warming, I don’t think so. God Help Us in more ways than one. VR. JM

Yeah. We all know there were never any droughts, hurricanes, or blizzards until Global Warming came along. It just ruined everything.

Pocatello, ID has had endless thunderstorms since April. All the reservoirs are full to capacity. The sumps that catch rainfall in place of storm drains are full too. Now the rain causes flash floods. It's too wet and too cool for the crops. July 4th included a big hail storm that left yards and streets looking like a winter snow storm. Global warming is a fable pushed by agenda driven socialists.
