Ratcheting up her offensive against the news media, Gov. Sarah Palins attorney threatened Saturday to sue mainstream news organizations if they publish defamatory stories relating to whether Palin is under federal investigation.
In an extraordinary four-page letter, Alaska-based attorney Thomas Van Flein warns of severe consequences should speculation that until now has largely been confined to blogs about whether Palin embezzled funds in the construction of a Wasilla, Alaska, sports arena find its way into print.
This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law, Van Flein warned, citing Alaska liberal blogger Shannyn Moore.
Much like Palin did in her Facebook statement Saturday, Van Flein savages the news media in his letter.
Just as power abhors a vacuum, modern journalism apparently abhors any type of due diligence and fact checking before scurrilous allegations are repeated as fact, the Anchorage attorney wrote.

The hag is nothing more than another Jayson Blair taking orders from the DNC to be the “pointman” thus they don’t get their hands dirty. The source of the slander need to fall as well as the trash who print outright lies.
BLAH BLAH BLAH ALERT!
not too sure about that. come two weeks, she will be a private citizen.
Check out post #65. Shuster is thanking her for being careful about how she words the “criminal investigation” rumors.
“Don’t you dare toss me in that briar patch!”
The word “toad” comes to mind...
A deranged and obsessive democrat blogger in Alaska who enjoys the attention of weak-minded fools at places like the Daily KOS. She attempts to achieve notoriety by barking at Palin’s door.
She could probably finance a whole presidential campaign on monetary awards from those who have slandered/libled her and her family! Wouldn’t that be a kicker to those slimeballs?
Hmmm...I wonder if the ‘Cuda has a plan...
Whose picture is that?
Ye-ah Baby!
The dumb thing about the rumors she is spreading, is that they are for something that happened quite some time ago (2002, if what I’ve read is correct). That means it would be darn near pointless to even start an investigation now, as the supposed “crimes” would be about to blow statue of limitations now, anyway. The fact that the stories go ahead despite that, would be an indicator that the spreader of the rumors is doing so out of malice.
“That means it would be darn near pointless”
Libtards are out there repeating that lie to other gullible libtards even as we type. They don’t even care if it’s true or not.
One function of the letter from her counsel is to provide notice. Publication after notice is then "know it to be false."
To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as "fact" that Governor Palin resigned because she is "under federal investigation" for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation. This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law.
I'll post the complete letter separately, if I don't see it eleswhere on FR.
It looks to me like Moore had better get her resume’ ready for a career change. Not to mention a financial hurricane.
Yeah. I think this person has had the tables turned. Moore is also a "reporter" for Huffington Post, which is why the public release named HuffPo. I bet there were also certified letters sent to HuffPo, demanding prompt and public retraction. If that is not forthcoming, a lawsuit would be prudent, even if it would not prevail. The suit would chill rumor-mongering (a good chill!), and might itself make news.
The letter from Palin's counsel has contact information, and I'm sure the lefties already have this. So, with that in mind, I'll repeat it here:
