It was meant to be a show case for healthy living, with the first lady, Michelle Obama, personally putting hand to pitch fork in a crowd of school children to dig up the first White House vegetable garden in more than 50 years.

Instead, an embarrassed White House admitted today that the plot - whose lettuce, herbs and other produce have been consumed by the first family, visiting dignitaries, local school children and a women's homeless shelter - had tested positive for elevated levels of lead.

The White House would not say whether the Obamas or the children who had helped tend the garden would be tested for lead exposure.

As fifth grade students picked 73 pounds of lettuce and 12 pounds of peas, assistant White House Chef Sam Kass noted that the garden had flourished quickly due to the downpours, the Washington Post reported.

Besides the lettuce and peas, the 1,100-suare foot, L-shaped garden has also produced beans, kale, chard, collard greens and herbs, Kass told the paper.

The White House kitchen has been turning the garden’s beans into dinner fare every other day and the fresh herbs are used nightly.

Kass also noted that no chemicals were used on the vegetables, and Bo, the family dog, didn’t eat any of the plants.

I see your point Rain Drop.

Photo one, i saw without my glasses.
The crops, beans, tomatoes and lettuce are growing in the grayish natural soil(a sandy mix of ground that is typical in the East, in locations near the coastline).

The dark, red lettuce, looked like the soiled roots of freshly harvested crops.

Yes, these vegetables are the result of the native ground and whatever amendment materials were added.

The second photo is clearly raised beds.

Now it needs to be made clear which of the different types of soils contained the offending lead.

Here’s one from Liberty Post, they are making fun of this clown:

“This has been hitting the fan at TOS for hours. Some assclown doesn’t believe lead is poisonous in the bloodstream!

It’s a half a hoot, not quite a full hoot yet.”

Why not just pull your pants down and show the world your brains, someone obviously has pinged their friends. It’s probably just the first. Lots of conservative sites out there on the www, others will catch on and start making fun.

As I recall reading, Andrew Jackson, the last Democrat that got anything right, used to shoot regularly from the white house porch.

“And you can bet they were taken care of by the WH gardeners while the Zeroes were shopping in London and Paris.”

Actually they forced the WH chefs to weed the garden. There was a story about it a week or 2 ago. One chef was from Chicago and the other one was the pastry chef.

You can be darn sure that Ms. O did about .010 percent of the work that was required to create, maintain and deliver this garden.

Many of the plants are certainly transplants that were started elsewhere. Of course, the media will not mention this as they have little care themselves; let alone the truth be told.

However, yes it is quite possible to bring these veggies to fruition within this time period.

I sowed Radishes, Lettuce and Pea on 3/28 of this year.
I was picking radishes in late April, lettuce a week or so later(still am by the way), and the peas started ripening around the second week of June.(They are just about over now).

I hear you with the white pants. LOL

I wear the most gosh awful, soiled, stinky, some times
not washed in weeks, stuff that I keep in a plastic bag
in my car trunk, cause the Missus wont let it NEAR the
house, let alone IN the house, not that she even wants
it NEAR the property, wishes I would BURN it kinda stuff
to work in MY garden.

It all works out fine.

No way is this the current garden. Not for $200. No way would fifth graders or WH staff weed so well. There was professional help and machinery used.

Ms. O claimed that the garden was “real inexpensive”,
“about $200”.

What a crock!

Try starting a 1,100 sq foot garden from scratch, that will
be fertile and productive. Add to that any seeds and transplants, tools, hoses, raised beds, hummus amendments, etc, etc.

I promise you all that this “simple garden” cost the tax payers into the tens of thousands to procure.

My ‘garden’ cost more than $200 and it consists of many tomato plants, cucumbers, onions, strawberries and lots & lots of flowers all on my DECK (it reaches across the back of my house)! So, I know for a fact that ‘her garden’ cost a lot more than that!

What do you expect from professional liars and a clueless media?!

Thanks for the link postings Kvcl.

By the way, that last photo link from the HUFFy Post,
obviously shows Chili type Peppers that are EXTREMELY
well advanced. They were probably started in a nursery
as far back as January. They've been well cared for and
most likely “over sized” potted plants when the were
transplanted into Her Ladyships garden.

Don't even get me started on the Tomatoes...

I’ve got a retired relative with a small “truck farm” who sells produce from his front yard (honor system). Even though I know his wife went to high school with the Burpee’s (Fordhook Farms was next to the athletic field) he bought tomato plants mail order from St Louis, can’t imagine why, best deal I guess.

This year he drove down to Warminster, PA and picked up some of the Burpee $4 tomato plants, they had to be special varieties not available elsewhere. Haven’t seen him yet to ask. I’ve seen the Burpee seed catalog, some unique stuff in there.

They’re in PA, I tried growing radishes. First year the garden was planted in the wasteland part of the property where grass didn’t grow. Mine were three inches long and about the thickness of pencil lead. Got better as I threw fertilizer on the soil about 3X/year.
