If Sarah Palin is stepping down as governor because she has national political ambitions -- and she did not say she intends to run for president -- her move did nothing to shake what GOP pollster Whit Ayers called "the 'lightweight' monkey on her back."
"If you're a serious politician and you're seriously interested in higher office, the best thing you can do is as good a job as possible in the current office,"...

Would she have stepped down if the lt. gov. were Democrat?
>> I can see a number of reasons for her making this choice effective right now; and not all of them are self-serving.
1) Handing over the office to her Lt. Gov now gives him a year-and-a-half to "show his stuff" before the next gubernatorial election. He will be the incumbent (sort of) and he will have a record to run on against whatever leftist/lib the Ds put up.
This is one for the team (R party).
2) She has been forced to spend precious time and $$ defending herself against frivolous, even insane, ethics complaints; which has forced her also to not have the time to focus on doing the business of Alaskans and Alaska.
This is one for the citizens of Alaska.
3) If she had traveled to Republican events for speaking engagements. in the lower 48 while she was still governor, her political opponents (not just the Ds, but the old boy network of wishy-washy Rs) would raise the argument that she was using her office as a stepping stone and neglecting her responsibilities to the people of Alaska.
Now she can travel and speak out on the issues that made her such a frightening opponent to the leftists/libs during the presidential campaign. <<
Hee. When I woke up I thought it was Sunday.
Yeah, every Saturday.
Alert to DNC: Sarah’s going to be in your hair starting July 26th this year. and she won’t be constrained by her office or the McCain camp. All wimps on deck! Alert! Alert!
There you go! August 1, she’s free.
Idiot...once was enough.
Agree McNuts started the problems for her time for him to pay also.
LOL. zer0 "quit" in every sense of the word. He was a candidate for POTUS longer than he was a Senator from IL. He even said after being elected as Senator, that he was NOT ready for POTUS and wouldn't run for it before his term was up. He was a "sham" Senator. Sarah is authentic. She's no lame duck or placeholder.
Besides, there's more important work for her to do on behalf of conservatives running to take back the House and Senate in 2010, before her POTUS run in 2012.
Me? I'll give $...

No, its Saturday and Rush will be on vacation ALL next week. He is usually gone when a big story breaks. It seems to work out that way quite a bit. He even says so.
Uhng...what is it with me and double-post madness?
I'd like to see her start touring, hawking a book (to help with her legal costs defending herself from the attackers), and basically making Zer0's life just plain miserable. Right now, Sarah Palin is the only real, plain speaking conservative that could possibly get any MSM air-time or print - and SOMEONE of substance needs to drown out the idiocy and ass-licking going on with the President's MSM lapdogs.
If she sets up a REAL PAC (i.e., one that SHE endorses officially and controls) with a stated purposed of running for President in 2012, I will empty my pockets to the extent I am able contributing to it.
As far as I'm concerned, we have a last-stand situation here in this country and possibly one, only one, chance to take this country back legally - and she's the best chance in my opinion - forget Mitt, Bobby, Huxster, Newt and the host of other possibles, period.
You are correct.
Sarah will be all over the country campaigning for conservative candidates. She will help shape the 2010 election. In her travels she will attract new followers, and grateful winning candidates. I just hope that in SC’s 1st district she comes down to campaign for fellow freeper Katherine Jenrette.
Okay help me out here. Im looking for the quote she used at the end of her speech yesterday. The quote was on her grandmothers refrigerator when she was growing up?
I have found transcripts of speech but I cannot open them for whatever reason.
Thanks. K
Add to the mystifing commentators Carl Rove and The Krauthammer. I was dissapointed by both of them re: Palin.
don’t explain why...your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it.
Zero didn’t quit the office but he didn’t have the hounds of hell nipping his ankles day and night and preventing him from doing his job (not that he would do the job anyway). I see no reason to fault Palin for quitting a job she was being hampered to do. It’s not like she left Alaska floundering...
Styne also was disappointing...
