The Huffington Post issued an apology Friday evening for an article about the resignation of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin posted at their website entitled, Palin Will Run In '12 On More Retardation Platform, written by HuffPo writer Erik Sean Nelson.
The Daily Dose published an e-mail apology from Mario Ruiz of HuffPo:
Due to an editorial lapse, Erik Sean Nelsons post on Sarah Palin bypassed the normal vetting process and appeared on HuffPost but was never featured anywhere on the site. Even though satiric works are generally given greater latitude, Nelsons post falls outside of HuffPosts editorial guidelines. As such, if not for the error, it would not have been approved for publication, and was removed from the site as soon as our editors became aware of it. We sincerely regret the error and any offense it might have caused.
Ruiz's statement the article was pulled by the editors contradicts claims by the author of the piece that he pulled the article within minutes of posting it:
Within 10 minutes of the post, I received 2 emails from special needs families, saw that it was hurtful and I pulled the post immediately. I apologize for offending you.
Since you wanted to know what I was going for, it was that Palin said that she was leaving the governorship because of jokes. What kind of President would she make if she couldnt handle some bad jokes? I used her words to create a farcical situation where offensive jokes were meant to be ironic. I saw immediately that it was wrong and apologized on the site.
Tommy Christopher, the author of the Daily Dose claims his intervention on Twitter alerted HuffPo to the offensive article:
Also important is that, within 10 minutes of tweeting HuffPo editor Jason Linkins, the piece was pulled (although it took longer for it to completely disappear). On a holiday weekend, no less, thats an amazing turnaround.
Of course, the left only cared about the article because Free Republic had brought public awareness to the nasty piece of work minutes after the article was published.
From Free Republic the outrage went viral leading to HuffPo pulling the article to ward off a PR disaster. Of course, there was no direct apology to the Palin family nor was the author fired, so HuffPo's apology appears to be a PR move and not sincere.
Too bad his Dad didn’t “pull out early”.
Liberals suck.
On the contrary our Pretender-in-Chief will be calling them to ask the first poignant question at his next presser!
This is the press he loves dearly!
I totally agree! I think it was just another vile dig toward Trig and ALL developmentally challenged individuals and their families!
You'd be pissing blood for a week.
I'm betting Todd Palin is thinking the same as you!
Disgraceful. They are still attacking the baby. Can Sarah Palin sue anyone when they attack her baby?
this is not this queen's first distasteful writing - i won't describe it, but he writes disgusting stuff about Jesus
there is no excuse for the post - i do not think he posted it without approval - i think hufpo believed they could push the limit just a little more
what scares me more than the post, is that der fuhrer is giving these hatemongers 'press' status
I guess you missed the part about how upset the children were that the "adults" (she used finger quotes) mocked Baby Trig.
Translation: "If we hadn't been called on it, the article would have stayed."
I think I'm missing the part where that kind of behavior is considered a "joke."
I’d pay to see that!
Exactly. This is sort of thing we have come to expect from the HuffPo.
Obama made that special olympics joke on Leno for Sarah.
He is that much of a L0ser.
Just like scrathing his face with his middle finger...
RUN SARAH RUN!
That’s the new Battle Cry.
Barry’s Media Brownshirt’s Ping!
Apologizing after-the-fact is pointless, much in the same regards as apologizing for running over someone’s kid then apologizing for it or murdering someone then apologizing later for it, etc., etc. The damage was/is already done....but yeah, a belated apology after-the-fact always makes one more appear more earnest and sincere, right HuffPo? Not.
And I apologize to everyone else that a random bolt of lightning didn't vaporize you on the spot.
It’s not enough. It sounds sincere, but it’s not enough. At the very least, they should admit it was in very poor taste and apologize directly to the family.
HuffPo needs to acknowledge that there is a big difference between satire and classless oafishness.
And the author tried to make it sound like he took it down because he got emails from people on behalf of retarded people, but that’s BS. HuffPo makes it clear they took it down. The author isn’t just a pig - he’s a filthy lying pig.
One thing they can’t stand is that Sarah didn’t abort Trig.
Neutering would be good, too, and do wonders for the gene pool.
