Palin's Dereliction of Duty
The American Spectator ^ | July 3, 2009 | Quin Hillyer

Posted on 07/03/2009 2:15:42 PM PDT by EveningStar

Knowing that many, many conservatives will absolutely dump on me for saying this, I can't help myself: Sarah Palin's resignation is an appalling dereliction of duty and a highly cynical move to set herself up for a presidental run for which she is manifestly unqualified.

OK, as I said before, I know people on FR love her, but it seems SP has taken herself out of the running. I don’t think she even has a chance of winning the Republican nomination now, but time will tell. The press has done its job on her, and the American people do not think she is capable. It may not be fair, but that is the perception.

And my perception is that you are a quivering mass of lemon jello. Maybe you could start a Quivering Mass of Yellow Jello Ping list so that all the handwringing folk can gather in one place.

Unless there are some health and/or family reasons she hasn't mentioned or perhaps some ethics charge we don't know about, she has no defense for not finishing the term she was elected for.

Friday afternoon (especially Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend) is when politicians bring out news they do NOT want scrutinized closely....

You are probably right. They have attacked her and made her life miserable in many ways. She may just have said to heck with it. If the American people want to elect a bunch of socialists, then why should I put myself and my family through this hell?

Covenantor? As in the Christian term? Wow, I would not expect a gratuitous insult from a fellow Christian. I was merely expressing my opinion.

OTOH, we have at least 2 more years to keep an eye out for potential Presidential candidates. Our mistake is broadcasting what cards we are going to play WAY before hand.

Exactly. Anybody that thinks Palin has a chance for the Presidency after today's announcement is delusional.

I predict the next GOP candidate will come out of nowhere and neither Libs nor Conservatives will know who it is until it happens.

Yes, I’ve been wrong a lot, too, but I really think she’s just sick of it. If it had simply been the Dems attacking her, that would have been one thing. But I have been disgusted by the absolute raving hatred expressed by a lot of theoretically “conservative” folks such as David Frum.

I for one hope she runs in 2012. I remember when Bill Clinton was elected his last time as the governor. He promised that he would not quit for a presidential run. Needless to say he lied.

As did his wife. When she ran for her 2nd term she promised that she wasn't running for president.....both liars. Sarah has far more integrity.

She didn't campaign for being bankrupted by frivolous lawsuits. The job description changed after she was hired.

That's exactly right. There has never been a climate comparable to this in the whole history of our once-great nation. The "politics of personal destruction" have been steadily escalating for the past 50 years, now reaching a crescendo. Now, the entire game has changed -- with the Internet added to the mix, and the international monies flowing in, and George Soros behind the scenes, the takeover of the press, schools, universities and now the churches, with the long build-up of the carpetbagging civil attorneys all over the country, and that our enemy is now not Russia but worldwide Islamofascism. The old ideas of building popular acclaim by traveling and pressing the flesh are now a suicide pact, and will remain so unless The People can DRIVE A CRITICAL MASS OF INCUMBENTS OUT OF THE STATEHOUSES AND CONGRESS ASAP, and STOP BUYING, READING OR TUNING IN TO MASS MEDIA.

Just when freedom started to rear its head again, the demon left went into overdrive. I have never seen such slime in my entire life, which began during WWII. She is right to take the situation as she finds it and do the best thing today, not wait for things to change. They are only going to get worse for the foreseeable future.

If you want to be president, you don’t just up and quit an important job...

Obama quit his job as Senator to run for POTUS. He just didn't resign from the office -- he quit while still pulling down the paycheck.

It strikes me as more honorable to resign from office, stop taking taxpayer money, and run full time rather than stay in office, take the taxpayer paycheck, and totally ignore the duties of your office.

...she is quitting early a job for which she campaigned, won and accepted. That is not ethical, sorry.

When she did that, there was no offer on the horizon to run for vice president, an event and surrounding conditions that changed everything. She's not out. She's not even down.

But you can’t compare Dems and Republicans. The press gives the Dems a free pass on everything! If any of these people - Robert Byrd, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Chris Dodd, Ted Kennedy - had been Republicans, do you think they would still have power and influence? The media would have crucified them!

It doesn’t matter what conservatives think about SP. The media has done a successful hatchet job on her, and her quitting just gives them more ammunition. I don’t think the American people will change their minds on this. The press won’t let them. It’s as simple as that. If Freepers want to hold out hope, that’s fine, but I don’t think SP is coming back.

Do not put your worst fears into words. It’s a bad idea. If you can’t think positively with faith that things all work out for the best in the long run, just keep it to yourself. Open your mind to the changes that are happening, and avoid shooting into the circle.

“If you want to be president, you don’t just up and quit an important job, especially in the current situation. It makes it look like she couldn’t handle the pressure.”

Some times in a battle, you have to move your troops around.

Don’t think so small....you are a Texan!!

It’s completely baffling. I can’t even draw any conclusions from this news, there just isn’t enough information. Giving her the benefit of the doubt is hard, but there has to be more to it.

Reality is that we really don’t know her reasons. Idle speculation at this point.

I do believe that all things work out for the best because God is sovereign, but that does not mean it appears to be the best from our point of view.
