Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein told an FBI interviewer before he was hanged that he led the world to believe that his country had weapons of mass destruction because he did not want to appear weak to the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to declassified FBI documents released Wednesday.
Hussein was quoted as saying that he was so concerned about radical Iranian leaders that he was ready to sign a security agreement with the United States guaranteeing protection from Iran....
Hussein also referred to Osama Bin Laden as a "zealot" and said that he did not deal with al-Qaida....

I took the pics and wished I'd done better.
Saddam lied, people died!
Meanwhile we just shipped 550 metric tons of his yellowcake to Canada - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2283815/posts
Why in the world do you think this stuff did not get out through “official channels”? This continues to boggle my mind five years later.
I was on a radio show with Cleave Little when I was in high school (around 1967) before he made the movie. Long story.
Exactly..
Sheesh this story came out months (if not a year) ago. Any other “breaking” news you want to share, Mr Rather, like Obama elected President or the Phillies won the World Series!?!? And oh yeah, go away, dweeb.
My involvement was at the request of the military, they were concerned about the chlorine canisters.
In the process we discovered mixing equipement and at least one 120mm mortar tube.
Ask the Kurds, Saddam. Ask the Iranian soldiers from the Iraq-Iran war. Ask the guy who wrote the following document:
TRANSLATION:
Topic: We have information about the location of the weapons of mass destruction.
On the tenth of Muharram [first month of Islamic calendar], prior to the invasion of Iraq, 50 Iraqi trucks entered Syria as convoys. I met some of the drivers; they didn’t know what they were carrying in the trucks.
The loads came from an unknown place in Baghdad. Iraqi intelligence was escorting them. During their trip, the truck drivers were stopped and asked frequently by the intelligence officers about whether or not they knew what they were carrying. The drivers said they didn’t know, and the intelligence officers thanked them.
Upon their arrival to the Dayr al-Azur region, the drivers were ordered to get out. The Syrian intelligence officials got into the trucks and drove them to a large barracks for unloading. The Iraqi drivers got their trucks back and $200 as a reward.
The drivers told me it was their second time bringing such secret shipments, and that the first time was on the first of Muharram.
I have a friend in Syria working at a Syrian company. He owns half the company and the other half belongs to a Syrian businessman. This Iraqi person is a former counselor at Iraqi embassies and has strong connections with the Iraqi embassy in Syria. He knows all the Iraqi intelligence officers there, and he does not know that I am working with the Iraqi opposition in Syria.
I used to visit him daily during that period and listen to important news. When the trucks arrived in Syria I visited him and told him that Iraqi weapons had entered Syria. He said “who told you this?” I said I had my own sources. He said not to tell anyone about it because they really had entered.

That article was from July 2008. See my post #56 on this thread.
“He’s dead, Jim.”
I think if the truth were known the CIA gave him WMD and are not admitting it.
Thanks, I didn’t notice the date when I saw the article this morning.
Point remains of course.
This is very old “news”. It was known before he was hanged. That said, I have no more faith in what he said after he was captured than I have in what he said before he was captured. Either way he could be lying to cover his butt. Certainly there was sufficient activity visible from satellite and other evidence that WMD threat was serious and real, and there has been a heck of a lot found.
Agreed about the WMDs. In addition, there is very sufficient info about SHs regime kowtowing with terrorists that his claims about not liking them is ridiculous, too.
It's tinfoily for sure, but this notion goes a long way toward explaining why the GWB was satisfied to have his head kicked in by the "Bush Lied / People Died" crowd rather than verify it's veracity. Whether or not it was us directly of through third parties, it would be a horror show.
I'm not sure we'll ever know one way or another and the powers-that-be are happy to have it be so.
you forget the Bush 1 was in charge of the CIA when all this started..kinda like Bush 2 covering for the dad!
