It has been a rocky couple of weeks for the Republican Party as high-profile, traditional-values politicians have faced embarrassing sex scandals.
First it was Sen. John Ensign, R-Nevada, who admitted in a news conference two weeks ago to having an affair with a former staffer.
Then, last week, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford trumped Ensign.
After days in which his whereabouts were unknown by his wife and staff (who thought he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail), Sanford held a tear-filled and rambling news conference to admit to an affair with an Argentine woman, and to apologize to his staff and the voters of South Carolina for not disclosing where he was.
Republicans and Democrats panned the scandal. And for social conservatives, who stand on principles of traditional marriage and family values, it was a hard blow. Watch more on Sanford's scandal »
Michelle Malkin, a controversial columnist, has in the past lambasted Democrats for unbecoming personal behavior. But she was especially harsh with Sanford's infidelity.
"Mark Sanford: Bastard," she wrote on her blog. "If you missed Sanford's rambling, surreal disaster of a press conference, consider yourself lucky. ... If you can't honor your marriage vows, how can you expect voters to trust you to honor your damned oath of office?"
The question going forward is: Will the recent scandals remain on the public's mind come November 2010, when voters go to the polls in congressional midterm elections?
Mark Preston, CNN political editor, said these scandals are hurting the party's already tarnished image, but they may not have a major effect on upcoming races.
"These scandals have hurt the Republican Party's image at a time when the GOP is trying to re-establish its brand," he said. "Still,

IMO, it won’t effect anything. They are just getting the chaff cleaned out before elections next year, better now than later.

It appears that even the imparial CNN reporter (who probably knows better) has forgotten that no Democratic politician ever lost his job for adultry (or any other kid of sex). Bill Clinton was impeached for lying under oath, and attempting to suborn a witness. Democratic NY called for Elliot Spitzer for soliciting prostitutes, not for what he did with them. The rest is the wives problem.
What are they talking about “upcoming elections” ... do they mean 2010? Uh, sorry thats still 18 months away.
Or, given these two specific cases, beyond?? And would the fact that two Republicans had affairs prevent SWING voters from voting for them. I think not.
So no this is foolish. Michael Jackson already blew both the scandals COMPLETLEY out of the news. Thanks MJ! You finally did something useful in the latter half of your life.
What about the Democratic corruption. Rep. Jefferson is going on trial and will be convicted of bribery. Rep. Conyers wife, a Detroit city councilwoman, just plead guilty to felony bribery and corruption charges. She has resigned and is going to jail.
As a voter, which is the bigger problem for you: Democrats stealing money from the public treasury or Republicans having (adult, heterosexual) mistresses. Does anyone even care about the latter? For about 20 years the vast majority of prime time TV has revolved around who the characters are having sex with, inside, outside and in between marraige. Sadly, it’s the new normal.
In other words ...
When Zero gets done delivering massively higher prices for everything, rolling blackouts, communists running most of Latin America, smoking holes where cities used to be in the Middle East (if we are lucky) or the Middle West (if we are not), the dollar is worth about 25cents and unemployment is declining from 25% some Senator boinking a lady friend will have absolutely no relevance to people’s voting.
At least they weren’t queer.
Michael Jackson is unable to accept you award. He is in Hell right now for molesting a little boy and then paying the boy's parents $23 million dollars to drop the charges instead of confessing his crime and repenting.
Accepting the award on Mr. Jackson's behalf are the boy's parents, who will eventually be joining Mr. Jackson in Hell.

Why does CNN call Malkin a "controversial columnist"? What is their criteria for "controversial"? Does CNN call any leftist columnist controversial? Or is that a label reserved strictly to make those to CNN's right look suspect?
The leftist media seem to label anything done by the "right" as "controversial", but never anything done by the left.
Beck, or BOR, or Rush, really needs to call the media on this. Not just once (cuz' it'll just die in mid-air), but keep hounding the media on these little labels they like to nuance into their reports (think "subliminal").

I find Michell Malkin boring, but I’m scratching my head to think of even one controvery that she’s ever been involved in. Come to think of it, maybe that’s one of the reasons why I think she’s boring...

I actually met her once, a long time ago. She’s tiny. Hot, but tiny. The main reason people listen to her is because they see her on TV a lot. She’s on TV a lot mainly because she looks good on camera.
