LANSING, Mich. -- Empty Michigan prisons could become home to hundreds of California inmates if a deal can be struck.
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm sent a letter Monday to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger formally offering space for some of the inmates California is running out of room to house to Michigan.

Michigan plans to close two prisons by the end of September.
They are the Standish Maximum Correctional facility about 145 miles northwest of Detroit and a medium-security prison in Muskegon, about 45 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.
Michigan could save the jobs of about half of the 1,000 prison guards it plans to lay off by Oct. 1 if California accepts the offer.
A request for comment was left with Schwarzenegger's office Monday.

Is Granholm going to foot the bill for these prisoners or what ?

They are now running on IOUs.
Many of the prisoners will be California gang bangers. When they move in, their homeys will move nearby to 'keep the faith' with them, visit them, and carry out their orders. Michigan will gain the worst parts of California at the price of a few hundred jobs for as long as California can pay.

Granholm got in because she managed to make promise after promise to a welfare constituency. That’s how she got in and stays in.

Michigan has one of the HIGHEST crime rates in the country, even not counting their government. How can their prisons have vacancy signs?
Some days I just can’t help but laugh at the utter stupidity of Michigan democrats. Fortunately our GOP state reps are starting to stand up and cause trouble in Lansing.
My personal favorite granholm idiocy is wanting to spend stimulus money to print roadsigns to show where stimulus money is being spent.
As much as I detest Jenny, if she's negotiating to rent out Michigan prisons, it's not a horrid idea. Of course, Arnold doesn't have any money to pay for this, and the ACLU idiots will try to block this, but still...
