It seems, from what I’ve read,(I only know what I read on this one, so there ya go) that some/many of the folks who gave him their money were sure that he had some “secret” to obtain higher than normal returns.

A two way street for some who want his head on a pike.

now would be a good time to pass such a law to keep future recipients of scammed money from being able to keep it.

You forget, many of those who claim to have been scammed actually made millions with Bernie. They got 12% to 16% on their money for many years.

Are you suggesting that they should return those ill-gotten gains?

"And rapists, murderers, pedophiles, wife-beaters, child-molesters get far less time. Makes sense to me. "

Shows where Liberals' treasure is.

He stole billions of dollars. He CAN’T make restitution. He should be in jail - in a cage - fed food and water - then thrown to the sharks. He’s a LOSER!LOSER!!!LOSER!LOSER!LOSER!LOSER!LOSER!LOSER!LOSER!

No. But for theft on this massive a scale then there will never be restitution. He can't earn enough to begin to compensate all the people who's financial lives he's ruined. So if he's broken the law then he deserves to be punished for his actions. Remember, his fraud was deliberate, he knew what he was doing was illegal. And at the same time he was stealing billions from his customers, hundreds of millions of it was financing an opulent lifestyle for him and his family. His actions deserve the maximum punishment allowed by the law. Which is exactly what he got.

Absolutely. I'm taking it a step further by saying that if the investors that made a profit are able to find some way to hide behind the law to keep the money then we need to 'fix' those laws so that no one else can hide behind 'em ever again. If you know that you'll have to pay back any ill-gotten gains it might make you a bit more leary when you invest with someone who is making claims that seem to good to be true.

I missed that he was already jailed, maybe there is some justice left in the US after all.

“People like this should pay restitution”

they tried to work a deal but Bernie came off to the judge and the prosecutor as a double talking, misleading liar.......I think that kinda pissed off the judge

...so a 70 year old man on his last legs is going to jail? How is that “justice”?

The fact that he's old isn't relevant to what punishment he deserves.

Madoff has potentially ruined the lives of maybe 1000's of people. How do you suggest he be punished, if not with jail time?

If he were a congressman, he’d be in line for a raise.

He pled guilty. No bail, no appeal, other than the sentence perhaps.

Something to say about PERSPECTIVE.

His wife has lost everything and is being left with a little over 2million dollars. Poor woman, how will she manage to scrape by.

However, if I walked out of a courtroom with $2mil, I would be jumping for joy.....

I don't want to sound like one of those FReepers who whines and moans that dog abusers are punished when the unborn are being killed as we type, but....it does tick me off somewhat that this guy gets such a stiff sentence and rapists and murderers too often won't get a tenth of this.

But NOT comparing his sentence to anything else - yeah - I'm glad he'll never see light of day again, sure.

Sure - he deserves to spend his life in jail, but it's not like he murdered anyone. Those who rape and/or murder children get less.

This is a classic case of mob mentality - "Kill him! Tear him apart! We want to see his blood!"

This is just sick. He's a human being.

If you are an idiot, then so am I. This man is not a serial killer that is a danger to society. I am simply horrified at our justice system.

Until CONgress, and various Wall Street giants are in jail, ...who cares? Madoff is only 1% of the $$$$ stolen right under the very eyes of the asleep American public.

Our own governments Social Security scam is no less than a ponzi scheme. Welfare healthcare will be the same.
As a matter of fact, I've not seen one penny of return on the taxes we've paid all our working lives except our dirt road being leveled every few years and the military keeping our nation safe. The rest is simply stolen from us. We'll never benefit from any of it.

You're not an idiot FRiend. From what I understand, Madoff is a very arrogant, little man. He literally turned himself in when his scheme finally failed....a classic "don't look at the man behind the curtain" defense. He's the tip of the iceberg, you don't scam $36 billion without friends. He's a fallguy. Let's hope the investigations continue....

Yeah. I think so, too. The mob mentality associated with all of this stinks to high heaven.

Those who were ripped off by Madoff have the right to be outraged, but everyone else is acting as though he stole from them, too. He didn't. The "kill him! Kill him!!" outrage has been mass produced by the media. They must have a reason. In my opinion, there's people involved here we're not suppose to know about. Most of his clients were stereo typical of the left wing base.

It’s about the crime/law not the particulars of the individual.

Or it should be.
