I was just thinking, If Chavez goes to war over Honduras and 0bama publicly backs the Chavez side, We could have lots of secession talk outside of TX as well.

“.......the possibility is growing”

We (fellow Texian)missed the window of opportunity on this about twenty years ago. There's too many snow birds here now. I've been data that shows approx half of Texas residents are transplants. However, I would agree that “something may be percolating” under the surface. Being that most states are now politically divided fairly closely, I foresee perhaps some sort of alliance driven by individual philosophies and moral values which at first glance suggests another political party. But, that's not what I forsee. I think it will be a movement more forceful than either of the two current parties (Dem's & Repub’s). Just thinking out loud :)

We are living in a country with two opposing, irreconcilable worldviews. We need to come up with some sort of arrangement that would force the statists and collectivists to survive on their own.

Secession is a course of action that is time to seriously consider. Czechoslovakia is a good example of a nation dividing into two to the satisfaction of the people of both states. I do not wish to live in a Socialist country or one were all decisions about damn near everything is made in one city. I’m sure most people on Free Republic are like minded. However, there are many of our fellow citizens that truly want the Nanny state and are quite comfortable with having someone else direct their lives and would not like the rigors and responsibility of free and independent living. Nor or they comfortable living with a Constitutional government that prevents rapid and whimsical changes in government. It is best, therefore to consider dividing this country in two and allowing the people to settle in the one that best suits their disposition.

Couldn’t we pick a state with a milder climate to seceed? I’ve spent time in Texas in July...it’s not pleasant....

If it were to happen, Texas had better be prepared for a massive influx of shrugging Alas types. It's only been the first few months of obama and I'm way past tired of being scared of my government and worried about the future of the Constitution and the Republic.

Once Texas goes, the rest of the South and lower Midwest would eventually follow. As far as a Constitution, I believe there is a pretty good one in a case in a museum in D. C. that gets trampled on daily by the liberals in this country in the name of progress. Add a few items like term limits....

I’m for it;
the current president is as much of a horse’s ass as the last one who sparked secession talk.

Secession! Oh sure, screw the constitution and walk away. Let the Nazi socialist democrat party destroy the union and the constitution. I and many others took an oath to defend the constitution and not to take the gutless and useless approach of abandoning it. I still take that oath seriously but apparently some here do not or never have.

I agree with a previous poster about the snow birds making it more difficult to secede. I don’t live in Texas, but if Texas did secede from the American Empire and become a free republic, I’d move there. There is no hope for the government in Washington to be anything but a socialistic oligarchy. It will only get worse regardless of which party is in power.
Perhaps if Texas is successful in becoming a free republic (no pun intended), other states may follow.

Secession is the wrong approach. That has been asked and answered. Texas (and the other several States cannot secede). The law after the Civil War was strengthened. what Texas can do is beak into seven OTHER States and then demand 14 new Senators be seated. Then the fun starts.
