Betrayed by my Republican Congressman
The American Thinker Blog ^ | June 28, 2009 | Nancy Thorner

There is much outrage in the 10th District where I live.

My 10th District congressman, Mark Kirk, has the dubious distinction of being the only Republican member of the Illinois congressional delegation, and one of only eight Republicans nationwide, who voted on Friday, June 26, for the Waxman-Markey energy bill (HR 2454), commonly referred to as "Cap and Trade" or "Global Warming" bill. The bill narrowly passed the House with a vote of 219 to 212.

I would imagine that the same outrage exists in the congressional districts represented by all eight of the renegade Republicans. It is frowned upon to criticize fellow Republicans, but this defection cannot be brushed aside.

Radical and unjustified: Votes of eight renegade Republicans

Forty four wise Democrats crossed party lines to vote against the bill, while Kirk and seven other Republicans chose to ignore the 300-page amendment that was dropped into the mostly unread 1,000 page bill early in the morning on June 16, leaving no time to read the additional 300 pages and which turned the bill into an even more regulative and economic monstrosity.

Although Mark Kirk is proud to define himself as a moderate Republican with strong environmental leanings, he has put himself on record as supporting radical legislation that would result in economic pain for his constituents with little or no environmental gain.

It might be that Kirk has sealed his political future -- Kirk has expressed interest in running statewide here in Illinois for U.S. Senate or governor -- with his "yes" vote on the Democrat's Global Warming bill, after voters learn what is in the 1,300 page bill? Unfortunately Kirk has become more liberal in many ways than many moderate Democrats in Congress.

The Waxman-Markey bill is instead a job killer. Especially hard hit would be energy-intensive sectors

I am in the 10th district too, and also outraged at Kirk’s betrayal and sell-out for future political gain. I read that the 8 traitors CAN change there vote until the deadline on Wednesday. What can we do to pressure him, if anything at all? I have already called his office and sent emails.

Your RINO congressman made it possible for my Democrat congressman, Harry Mitchell, to safely vote against the “climate” bill. If Mitchell had voted for the bill, JD Hayworth would have had his guts for garters.

Therein lies the problem. These RINOs were complicit in voting for the bill so a certain amount of their Democrat buddies in conservative leaning districts could vote against it hopefully to ensure their seats. The “Old Potomac Two Step”.

Vote them all out and start afresh.

Keep calling him and working to elect a replacement for him. Call John Boehner’s office and demand a Republican reprimand of the traitors unless they change their votes.

UPDATE: Motion to reconsider was laid on the table and agreed to on HR 2454 Waxman-Markey. I just found the legislation summary. The best we can do is let them hear what we think and to fight it on the Senate side. They push things through so fast then slow to post so we do not have time to get the word out. I am still calling to tell them what I think and I hope everyone else does too! Thanks!

Staff is there. Tell them how you feel and then we have to start on the Senate.
SPEAK OUT ACROSS AMERICA

HR 2454 RECORDED VOTE 26-Jun-2009 7:17 PM
BILL TITLE: American Clean Energy and Security Act

The US House of Representatives passed HR 2454 on Friday June 26, 2009. The 8 Republicans who voted FOR the largest tax bill ever passed by a session of Congress have 5 days to change their votes. The deadline is Wednesday, July 2, 2009.

What Can You Do To Help? It’s time for a National Phone and Fax-a-Thon! Let’s join together with other states and apply the pressure! This Action Alert is spreading across the country asking ALL States to contact the 8 Republicans urging them to change their vote before the deadline!

THE PLAN: Call AND send a fax to ALL of their offices beginning Monday ... Do not stop until Wednesday! We may not be their constituents but their vote has a profound effect on every citizen across the country! It is important to do this while their offices are open so they get the FULL effect of our message! They will need to add paper to the fax machine too so let’s keep them busy! Their constituents will be protesting in person and visiting their offices. Let’s do our part and show our support!!

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW! WE MUST ACT FAST!!

Sample Fax: Use your own words. Advocate for your State and America!

Dear Congressman ___________,

Your vote on Friday to support the Waxman-Markey bill will have a negative effect on EVERY citizen of EVERY State! In addition to a significant increase in our energy costs, the price of food, furniture, clothing, and other items we use every day will rise rapidly as well. I urge you to change your vote before the 5 day deadline has expired to do so! There is time for you to protect your constituents and benefit the rest of America at the same time.

No longer will citizens across America sit by while our voices and opinions are ignored!! If you fail to change your vote, I vow to send a donation in support of your next primary opponent in order to ensure you no longer have the opportunity to negatively effect any of us again!

Do the right thing for ALL Americans and vote AGAINST HR 2454.

Sincerely,
Your Name
State

Here is the info you will need for this action alert! Burn up the phone and fax lines! Let your voice be heard!!

Ok... you can do that..

But Contact your Senators office FIRST.. THEN tell the congressman off...

Head off the bill then tell your representative.. that they are toast..

Call any Rep. who voted for this socialist bill to let them know your anger with this bill. Also don’t assume the Senate will reject BO health care. We need to flood them with phone calls, emails and faxes starting today and everyday thereafter right through to the vote. Keep hammering away and don’t give up! Toll free capital switchboard numbers are below.

Actually that is not an accurate assessment. Even Dennis Kucinich in the 10th District of Ohio voted against this monstrosity of a bill. This District lean heavily liberal. The few people who I've spoken to here are outraged at Dennis.

I asked one person if they knew if they wanted to sell their existing home under the new bill it would need to be upgraded to new green standards before going on the market?

The dumbfounded look of shock on their faces told me everything I needed to know. I then asked them if they were still outraged with Dennis or maybe they should checkout his reason for voting against the bill.

Even Dennis recognized the bill as a shell game and does nothing for the environment, one of his pet peeves.

Put the pressure on the Renegades, if uber-liberal Dennis Kucinich could see the bill was farcical, so can these Renegades.
