This is not going to work out well for anyone... long term, it could work out for the west if we bitch slap them [or the Brits do.] But if it lingers like last time, long term will take a nosedive for the west.

Iran sees the Brits as weak after the folly a few years back with the British sailors. They also have the added bonus of using this to galvanize the supporters of Ahmadinejad and the Revolutionary Guard.
I hate saying this but weakness breeds contempt and the British behavior from a few years back brought this action. My tag line says it all, Oderint dum metuant, “Let them hate, so long as they fear”.
