Open Letter to Freepers: The U.S. As You've Known It Is Already Dead

While reading the following news story:

http://uk.reuters.com/article/motoringAutoNews/idUKTRE5406CF20090501

----------------

I was reminded two very important quotes from John Adams about the American Revolution:

* As to the history of the revolution, my ideas may be peculiar, perhaps singular. What do we mean by the Revolution? The war? That was no part of the revolution; it was only an effect and consequence of it. The revolution was in the minds of the people, and this was effected from 1760 - 1775, in the course of fifteen years, before a drop of blood was shed at Lexington. o Letter to Thomas Jefferson (1815-08-24), The Works of John Adams

What do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations... This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution. * Letter to H. Niles (1818-02-13)

----------------

In other words, years before the American Revolution, there had been a revolution in people's minds about the way things were and the way things should be.

Forget the disputes over just how real are Obama's high poll numbers. This is beyond Obama, or even his current followers.

Whether we realize it or not, the US went through another mental revolution of thought over the past few decades -- maybe beginning as far back as the anti-war protests of the 1960s, maybe to Roosevelt's New Deal, maybe to Lincoln forcing a more centralized Union...whatever.

This revolution of thought has slowly eroded the entire mental foundation of the country's founding principles.

The U.S., as it was and as many of us here still think of it, is already gone. Dead. A number of us have not fully caught up to this emerging reality.

Obama, and Bush before him, are only making that obvious. Steele, Arlen Spectre, the feckless GOP, all the rest -- it's all part of bigger picture already drawn and entrenched, maybe even before many of us were born.

Many of us are holding onto a mental artifact that is gone or never existed in the minds of our "fellow Americans." That remains true no matter what happens to Obama, long after he's gone.

Does that mean we give up? No. But that if you're making a personal decision not to give up, you have to start thinking more seriously about follow-up to those Tea Parties and perhaps to secession.

The U.S. is, beyond everything else, an idea. When our "fellow Americans" no longer share the basic elements of that idea -- of even basic standards of mutual respect, logic, reason, civil discourse, respect for others as equals -- our "fellow Americans" are no longer our "fellow Americans."

Plan accordingly.

How long would a free Texas last if the rest of the world turned against it?

We have nukes.

And all manner of interesting things.

“... the left does INDEED have an issue they’d be willing to kill for, if not die - not letting YOU live as a free man.”

You are correct and once we can internalize that fact, the better off we are going to be. It is very hard to fight an enemy that doesn’t wear a uniform.

The left looks just like the rest of us...but, they are very alien to our principles and ideologies. They do consider us the enemy and they sincerely hate us.

9 Kentucky counties are named after Kentucky volunteers who were among the nearly 400 who died here in Michigan in the war of 1812. If Michigan was worth Kentuckians to fight and die for, its damn sure worth my fighting for it.

You also have many, many friends in other states that would operate behind "enemy" lines.

Yes, she does.

I think I will write her, and implore her to get out and about, or something!

["....rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible....”]

We are getting there quickly now.

The underlined sentence reads like the homosexual agenda verbatim.

Oh, I don't doubt that many leftists would have one of their characteristic hissy fits over a real secessionist movement.

But as you say, they wouldn't pick up a gun over it.

And since the armed forces of this country are largely peopled by folks who come from states that would be seceeding, I don't see them doing the leftist government's dirty work.

I raised this question before on what does it mean to be an American? America is an ideology or worldview based upon individual freedom, given by the Creator, with limited governmental interference. People should be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor without fear that some tyranny will take what they earned. It is an ideology of personal responsibility. I have the right to fail. If I don't work, I don't eat. I am NOT my brother's keeper.

That ideology is dead among the vast majority of Americans today. Statism is about maximum government and minimum personal freedom. The government is our keeper.

Most of the military are the sons and daughters of conservatives. There are some exceptions, but 99% ain’t gonna shoot at Ma an Pa,no matter who tells them to do it. And if there is going to be a situation like that it needs to happen before the communists control all the food and necessities, it will be harder then.

What is needed are ideas which capture the imagination of our “fellow Americans”. Notice that now “fellow Americans” include 13 to 25 illegal immigrants which have walked across an unpoliced border. Also, excluding the Internet the majority conservative population in the US have no way to get their word out. We need to buy MSM facilities and present our point of view, etc.

I pretty much agree.

It is why I am calling my property in Kentucky “Galt’s Plateau”.

Like Galt, I do not expect to change it. I expect it to collapse of it’s own weight. It is quite inevitable. But then comes the cleanup.

But let’s be frank here. Life is a mist. As a Christian I have more imprtant things on my mind than what particular country survives a particular moment in history. Countries come and go. This one had a pretty good run.

During Reconstruction after the last Civil War my ancestors were burned out of Alabama. They wound up in Texas.

If the “left” thinks that we will roll over an play dead they are Wrong.

And at least our neighbors to the North (OK) will be there with us. (I am not a football fan)

Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may.

Sam Houston

"What is needed are ideas which capture the imagination of our “fellow Americans”."

The matter requires careful thought and then coordinated action by thousands.

I feel the same way about Michigan. My grandparents from Sicily settled here a hundred years ago, and my great grandparents from Finland even further back settled in the Copper Country.

There are many reasons Michigan became the center of the industrialized world. Only one thing has changed - our government. We still have oil, natural gas, most of the world’s fresh water, shipping access to the world, iron ore, copper, silver, brine, timber, fertile land and more. Unfortunately, we also have progressives who taxed Detroit’s workers out of the city and followed that up by taxing business out as well. Progressive state government followed that. Now, as the progressive federal government imposes themselves more and more in any ability to exploit our natural resources, even a change in local or state government will not likely make any difference.

I love this place. I love the history here. My roots run deep. I must, however, recognize that being buried here before my time because of succumbing to government imposed starvation or restricted medical access may not be best serving my family or my ideals.

It remains to be seen whether my end will come here or elsewhere - but it will not happen huddled in a corner waiting for disease or starvation to take me.

The American ideal we thought we knew has been dying for a hundred years already. We are just now REALLY beginning to see the results of the decay that has been happening under the surface all that time. The love of liberty, however, is not dead or dying. Liberty and individual sovereignty are bigger than any government or monetary system or tyrant.

Liberty and individual sovereignty are ideals worth fighting for no matter where the battle may call us.

Ironic, isn’t it? The far leftists will fight to re-establish slavery rather than abolish it. And they are left by a part black man who probably had slave trading ancestors.

Never in my wildest imagination did I think that my adult years would be spend worrying about enslavement by our government.

So, what if a big part of the US joined in the secession? What if it turns out that secession looks like the county by county map of the last election? If so, then the little blue pockets will starve in short order and the fight will be to keep them in there long enough that they dispose of themselves.
If you look at it that way it’s easier to smile in the morning.

Seccession isn’t a red/blue state thing. I live in a blue state where only 9 or 10 of 83 counties vote democrat. (it might have been as high as 13 this time)
