I was reminded two very important quotes from John Adams about the American Revolution:

In other words, years before the American Revolution, there had been a revolution in people's minds about the way things were and the way things should be.

Forget the disputes over just how real are Obama's high poll numbers. This is beyond Obama, or even his current followers.

Whether we realize it or not, the US went through another mental revolution of thought over the past few decades -- maybe beginning as far back as the anti-war protests of the 1960s, maybe to Roosevelt's New Deal, maybe to Lincoln forcing a more centralized Union...whatever.

This revolution of thought has slowly eroded the entire mental foundation of the country's founding principles.

The U.S., as it was and as many of us here still think of it, is already gone. Dead. A number of us have not fully caught up to this emerging reality.

Obama, and Bush before him, are only making that obvious. Steele, Arlen Spectre, the feckless GOP, all the rest -- it's all part of bigger picture already drawn and entrenched, maybe even before many of us were born.

Many of us are holding onto a mental artifact that is gone or never existed in the minds of our "fellow Americans." That remains true no matter what happens to Obama, long after he's gone.

Does that mean we give up? No. But that if you're making a personal decision not to give up, you have to start thinking more seriously about follow-up to those Tea Parties and perhaps to secession.

The U.S. is, beyond everything else, an idea. When our "fellow Americans" no longer share the basic elements of that idea -- of even basic standards of mutual respect, logic, reason, civil discourse, respect for others as equals -- our "fellow Americans" are no longer our "fellow Americans."

Plan accordingly.

Yep. We've failed to have the courage to stop the left at the local levels (county, city, homeowners' association,...). Lately, at a ranch association meeting for an area in the middle of nowhere, there were people from big cities demanding higher dues, county takeovers of private roads, and even "municipal bonds" (LOL) to pay for the comforts and safety of their desires.

To be blunt and clear, too many people are afraid of angering women employed in local government (affirmative action employees), wives of local merchants and conflicting business clans despite the anti-social attitudes of those busybodies against the property rights of others.

I disagree. America has never had to endure a President and majority of Congress who hate this country as it was founded.

Whatever ploy of advancing of their own power they can make they will do so tirelessly, so long as it's adjudged that it won't cause them to lose power.

Note the moves against Rush Limbaugh. The prosecutor, Oxycontin and that heinous crime of "doctor shopping", costing Rush bookoo buckerooskis to defend. The Left fears making a martyr of him, but will attempt to marginalize him at every turn. Harry Reid has not had to pay an appropriate price of losing power (cf. the Lott's off-the-cuff party comment costing him his Majority Leader status) for rallying the power of 41 Senators' personal destruction against an single US citizen, against every positive aspect of the US Constitution).

If and when they believe they can safely "take him out" without making a martyr of him, I believe they will expend any number of taxpayer-underwritten dollars to do so.

Just wait until they get Franken seated. As an expendable asset, they'll turn him lose against Rush, looking for the next chink in the armor they and their media comrades can exploit.

I know, it is tough for me to put a finger on when the United States has "jumped the shark" although I say we've jumped a few times. We might jump again with Cap and Trade unless we stop it in the Senate although I still hear the twin Evenrudes idling with healthcare reform although it might be starting to run our of gas. If we apply the pressure, we can stop that too, but if not, that I think, will be the final shark jumping moment.

However, I think if I had to fix the first moment, it was the South losing the Civil War although a huge shark jump was Woodrow Wilson and the progressives. Even with Lincoln, we were still mostly what we should have been as a nation.

The Colonists believe they had no representation in their course. All the power was kept by Parliament, and the Crown. All through history you will see pivot points that almost always hinge on the lack of representation, or the hoarding of power, as we see with Obama and his Czar mentality. Revolution will happen again, but will it be too late...

Well, I think if we start losing at and break up, maybe a small rump US will survive and we can rebuild from there although due to the world situation, we could see an atomic war and would have to rebuild from there.

I know Texas would have nukes, that would be one card in their favor. Still would the Union be willing to lose Little Rock, St. Louis or Memphis to the Texas ANG to keep Texas?

When our fellow Americans are openly cheering for U.S. military defeat (democrats, huffposers, hollywood, koskids, college professors, print and tv media) and jump up and down with joy when our soldiers are killed as they did for almost the entire Bush presidency, decent people should realize they’re not worth debating. Secession now!

Personally, we should kick them out instead of us leaving. I would fly any and all of them, at our expense even, to nations where they will be happier. I'd even rent a U-Haul and two it behind my Explorer or 1977 Cougar and take a few up to Canada. I would exchange them to those who really want to be free to pursue the American dream by working, playing and learning hard. It's take flying lesson and fly them over in a 707 or even an old Stearman myself.

The US as we know it ended when, over a century ago, we let in masses of immigrants from eastern and southern Europe who brought with them a tradition of statism and paternalism. And almost every Loyal Southerner was a Democrat. So ‘effin what? The Republican party in those days was the Leftist Party of a centralized Federal government. The Democrats were the State’s Rights Party.
Had I lived in those days I would have joined all four of my Great Grandfathers and their brothers and would have been shooting at Union Blue Bellies too.
Texas was a Confederate State by an overwhelmingly large majority in a public referendum and I would have happily stood by her then and I would happily do so now should the occasion rise again. (And it looks like it just might.)
