The patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia says he will announce to the world Friday the unveiling of the Ark of the Covenant, perhaps the world's most prized archaeological and spiritual artifact, which he says has been hidden away in a church in his country for millennia.....
Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, told the news agency, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."
The announcement is expected to be made at 2 p.m. Italian time from the Hotel Aldrovandi in Rome

Other possible contents, the two tablets of stone constituting the “testimony” or evidence of God’s covenant with the people (i.e. The Ten Commandments) were kept within the Ark itself. A golden jar containing some of the manna from the Israelites’ trek in the wilderness, and the rod of Aaron that budded, were added to the contents of the Ark (Ex. 16:32-34; Heb. 9:4), but apparently were later removed at some point prior to the building of Solomon’s temple, as I Kings 8:9 that there “was nothing in the Ark save the two tablets of stone.” While Heb. 9:4 states these items were placed “inside” the Ark, Ex. 16:33-34 and Num. 17:10 use the expression “before” the Ark; some see a contradiction here, as the correct meaning of these phrases is open to interpretation. A Rabbinic tradition states that Moses also put the broken fragments of the first tablets of the Law into the Ark. Some scholars have argued that the plans to the Tabernacle were contained in the Ark.
Yes, see my post 166. The manna jar and Aaron’s rod must have been removed at some point.
I wonder what the scholars who claim plans for the ark were included use as their point of reference?
In your calculus there would be no sin, since it would be God causing you to do whatever has been called sin. You would remain blameless regardless of how you behaved. You might feel all warm and fuzzy with that, but God’s Word is a more pointed teacher.
Excellent points - I too believe that the “original” Ark of the OT was modeled after the Mercy Seat in in Heaven....
I also agree that as Christians our worship is not to be directed towards historical relics - regardless of any “proof” of being authentic...
However IMO the presumed discovery of the Ark of Moses would create a momumental ground-swell among the Jews to build a third Temple which I personally believe is part of end times Bible prophecy ...
Isaiah 11:12 could point to as end-times return of the Ark to Jersalem...?
And he shall set up an ensign (Strongs 5251: nace; from 5264; a flag; also a sail; by implication, a flagstaff; generally a signal; figuratively, a token:banner, pole, sail, (en-)sign, standard.)
.... for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
Isa 11:12
Is it just me, or does this arrangement sound a bit...irreverent?
The present Ethiopian Patriarch is one of the seven Presidents of the World Council of Churches.
Original interview in Italian here.
It would be great fun if the lid was removed and the Raider’s theme music played.
ROTFLMAO
Now, that is the quality humor I come to FR for.
Duly noted, but in the movie: were the spirits flying around?/Just Asking - seoul62........
Starting with the den of vipers and thieves? Pray tell, now what would that be?/Just Asking - seoul62........
While we may perceive things as good or evil or sinful, I don’t believe that God sees it that way. I don’t believe there is any sense of good or evil in God, not in the way we perceive it. He is everything.
The Lord will make His enemies His footstool. Glory!
Oh, I agree. If they gain access to the Temple Mount site for that purpose, I'll get goosebumps!
8 a.m. Eastern time
I am writing AFTER the alleged opening. Does anyone know what happened? Am I alone in the world now?
Waiting here. Michael Jackson’s demise was ill timed ...
Maybe the world will want to bury him in the ark. Shush, let’s hope they don’t hear that.
