Devinsky asked the president pointedly if he would be willing to promise that he wouldn't seek such extraordinary help for his wife or daughters if they became sick and the public plan he's proposing limited the tests or treatment they can get.
The president refused to make such a pledge, though he allowed that if "it's my family member, if it's my wife, if it's my children, if it's my grandmother, I always want them to get the very best care.

Even if he did pledge it...he’d be lying. I’d venture to guess that even if ANY of our legislators or elite pledged it, they’d be lying. A single payer health plan will immediately set the stage for a black market for health care for those who can afford it.

That’s ultimately what’s so corrupting about The Chicago Way. Once everyone starts thinking this way, everything Obama does will just seem like “business as usual” so they’ll shrug their shoulders and become too apathetic to try and change things. Chicago has endured this kind of thinking for decades, and it’s no accident that people like Obama and Rahm, marinated in this corrupt culture for decades, would think and behave as they do. To them, it’s all second nature.

Thank you! Interesting that it is a singular -— most people treat it as a plural. Yes, those old college courses do sometimes come in handy. I am waiting for some use for my time spent on Heraclitus in a philosophy course.
