So I am in an online discussion with a couple of Canadians about health care. They maintain that their's is cheaper (they say their taxes are fairly comprable to ours) and that American health care is considered the worst system in the world and that very few Canadians actually seek treatment in America. They say we pay too much and that conservatives are just fear mongering when it comes to how bad Canadian health care is.
Help me out here please.
Canadian taxes are comparable to those of NY or Mass. Which is to say very very high.
They have much fewer doctors per person in Canada.
They have much fewer CT and MRI machines in Canada. Remember Lesley Nielsons wife? She died because the hospital she went to didn’t have the equipment to scan her brain and they drove her to the bigger hospital.
Have them listen to Mark Steyn and read Dick Morris’ book “Catastrophe” which contains facts and figures on survival rates from cancer - Americans vs Canadians, delays in care, denial of certain drugs, denial or rationing of treatment, age discrimination for patient care, people who come to the US for treatment, “turfing” patients to distance hospitals based on bed count and costs, etc. Also, we subsidize Canada’s national defense which is a cost we bear on their behalf.
Click on the key words I put on your thread and find all the info you need to carry on an informative conversation.
Ask em if they like having a govt rat tell them what medical procedures they need instead of a doctor.
Oh and the surival rate for cancer is about 16% lower in Canada. Mostly because the govt won’t pay for modern medicines because they are too expensive. The wait for cancer screen in Canada is 18 weeks, hope your cancer waits that long.
We’d have to defend them if they were attacked.

Ask them how many Americans have crossed the border to obtain superior health care in Canada. <<<< crickets chirpping >>>>. Then ask them how many Canadians come to America for emergency medical treatment because they are on a waiting list in Canada. <<<< crickets chirpping >>>>>. Well, they could actually answer that last question, but they never will admit it.
I was going to suggest the same. Steyn was just talking about a lot of this when he was filling in for Rush on Monday. He's probably written an article on it too.
You can’t argue with intentional ignorance.
Aw darn! I have to go for the night.
I am Canadian, and they are full of it.
Go here to start, and get back to me if you need more.

Canadian Institute for Health.
I think you’re referencing Liam Neeson’s wife, Natasha Richardson. And we have lower level hospitals here as well, but there are lots of other reasons why we have superior hc, though.
- we lead the world in hc invoation
- our teaching hospitals are where every foreign doc wants to be
- up to this point, top notch care is rewarded with first rate compensation
-access to the care is much higher here than Canada fr a patient perspective. no honest person will deny it.
Found audio on YouTube of Steyn filling in for Rush talking about government health care. He’s lived in Britain and Canada so he knows.

You don’t have to tell them anything. They’ll figure it out when one of them notices a lump somewhere on their body.
Correct, howd I get that wrong. Yes we have lower level hospitals and bad doctors.
If socialized medicine is so good why do people in England have such HORRIBLE teeth.
Ask them what their PERSONAL experience has been with accessing health care.
Like our own brainwashed masses, they are probably just regurgitating media bilge.
I only grabbed one quick intro-type article from 2006 so you’ll need to research further, but the Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic compete for Canadian patients. If the system there is so wonderful, why do Canadians need to come to us?
My guess is the individuals you’re chatting with are Obama plants.
