Melancon gets ready to put Vitter’s ‘serious sin’ on trial

“If Charlie Melancon gets in and is well-funded, there’s the potential for a very tight race,” said Pearson Cross, a political science professor at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

State Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington said the prostitute issue will be front and center in the campaign, because Vitter will now be forced to answer questions he otherwise wouldn’t have.

“He’s going to have to now,” Whittington said. “And it’s such a strong issue, because he banged that Bible and ran on family values, when in reality he’s completely the opposite of that.”

This is what I feared. One of David Vitter’s 2004 commercials showed him changing his son’s diapers. I hope that ad doesn’t find its way onto Youtube. The ‘Rats are going to have a field day with Vitter’s hypocricy.

I just posted to the Lousiana FR board. We need to do some fact finding on good ole Charlie. Did y’all know he is the only congressman who has not come out in support of auditing the fed?

Worse yet, it’s not just “these days” - this is exactly how Vitter’s predecessor, Bob Livingston, ended up an ex-congressman. Maybe David inherited Livingston’s rolodex, too.

I will say one thing for Vitter, he has done his job advocating for SWLA after Rita, Gustav, and Ike unlike the other Sinator.

Vitter has been Pampered in the Senate far too long and his future Depends on how willing the people of Louisiana are forgive him and give him a big Huggies.

Actually I was kind of secretly hoping Charlie Melancon ran for a different office. Yes, if he's the RAT nominee, David Vitter is in for a really tough reelection fight.

On the other hand, if he doesn't run for reelection to the House, his seat is likely to go GOP. The Republicans control all but 1 of the Louisiana house seats now. Ironically, the lone RAT left, Melancon, represents a district drawn to elect Republicans. If Cao miraculously pulls off another upset and wins re-election, and the 3rd district goes back to its GOP voting habits with Melancon out of the way, we could sweep the House races there and end up with all-GOP congressional delegation.

Looks like a silver lining for the GOP in either scenario. Him skipping the race helps Vitter's reelection chances, his entry in the race helps the House GOP.

Of course the Senate situation is another matter. I personally think Vitter will win re-election despite being damaged politically, but with Melancon as his opponent it's going to be very hard. I wouldn't give the RATs any ideas they might be lurkers on this boards.

The other big thing to remember is that the Vitter issue is many years old. Time tends to heal most wounds, hence the reason why I believe Nevada Senator John Ensign, if he runs again, will win. The revelations came out way too early.

People forget about things over time, especially things that come out in 2005.

Sounds like Charlie doesn't believe in the power of the blood of the lamb.

Is Charlie a Christian?

Oh Yeah

If Melancon tries going the “sleaze” route, I guarantee it will blow up in his face. Dole tried that against Clintoon in ‘96 and he lost LA.

The porn star pondering about running against Vitter will do Melcon’s dirty work for him.
