Live thread for commentary on the ABC News Primetime ObamaCare Infomercial tonight at 9:00 PM CT/10:00 PM ET.
John Boehner recommends this handy guide to the healthcare informercial from The Freedom Project.
A Guide to the President's Health Care Infomercial
Acknowledging that his thinking on the issue has "evolved," President Barack Obama says he could support a law mandating that individuals purchase health care coverage, with fines for those who do not, but he stressed that there must be some kind of waiver for those who are simply unable to afford it. (snip)
During the election campaign, Obama said he was opposed to a federal law mandating the purchase of health care coverage.

[Define “large employer”.]
I believe, as of now, it is defined as 20 or more employees. How many companies with slightly more than 20 employees will be doing layoffs before this kicks in (it will be cheaper to pay unemployment than to provide health insurance for for life of employment)? How many companies will cap their payroll at 19 employees?
What burns me up about this “WE want” and “WE’LL ask” business is that it is NONE of the government’s business! These private decisions are to be ONLY between dr. and patient.
Whether intended or not, the consequence of government takeover of healthcare will be a nice, tidy thinning of the aging Boomer population without even having to call in Dr. Kevorkian! The officious stamp of a government bureaucrat will determine whether or not you or your loved ones deserve lifesaving treatment. Abortion and euthanasia will be tied up in one convenient bundle. Get rid of the unwanted at both the beginning AND end of life, all under the guise of health care. Eugenics will have been effectifely achieved because only the healthcare of the youngest and fittest will be sanctioned/financed by the government. As you suggested, reminds us of when gas chambers were really knowns as baths, resettlement was really deportation and murder, and the final solution was the Holocaust. I wonder what creative euphemisms THIS Leftist government will come up with? Will last place on a waiting list be adjusted prioritization or some other rotgut term?
The premise behind Roe v. Wade was that the state does not have the right to interfere in the medical decisions of a patient and a doctor and further that the state cannot inquire into the medical conditions of citizens because of the RIGHT OF PRIVACY.
The implementation of a forced government controlled health care industry would involve a wholesale destruction of any notion of medical "privacy" as enunciated in Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v. Wade.
Someone needs to start asking these congressmen and the president if they are now advocating that the right of privacy enunciated in Roe is no longer applicable to the states or the federal government?
Are the ratings is too?
Does anyone know if there is a transcript of last night Obamamercial?

(now to fly out for the day) ...
more of Obama doing what he does best, campaigning on no substance
Based on the flawed “No Child Left Behind” mantra, I’ve come up with Obama’s new slogan for healthcare:
No Patient Left Behind* (please see as yet UNTYPED astrisk for details and exceptions - old people, those who have used up their yearly health expenditures, etc)
Thank you. I finally found it on ABCnews.com. It’s on my timeline on Twitter ...
As you now, the questions and answers I posted last night were paraphrased as I watched the show. (Couldn’t get any suckers, er, “volunteers” to help.) Please do not repost my paraphrased material as quotes elsewhere because it isn’t guaranteed to be accurate. I did the best I could. I recommend that you read/quote the relevant sections of the ABC transcript, especially the question from the daughter regarding her mother’s pacemaker. That’s where Obama commented that they’d be asking some of us to take the pain pills rather than get the surgery.

p.s. I will ask the mods to update the original link on this article with the link to the transcript for easy access.
Will you update the original link I submitted with this thread to the following which is ABC’s official transcript of their healthcare townhall? Please & Thank you.

I saved that image long ago, meant to give it some movement.
Yes, I smoke too.
In both his news conference and infomercial, the President almost taunted private insurers abIout “competing” with his proposed “public option”. As a by-product of the Chicago Machine, “competition” to him may mean something different than what most of us would assume, like the same rules, a level playing field, things like that. Has anyone heard about eliminating the barriers private companies have for interstate sales? Mandates? Of course not.In the private sector, premiums are a function of: Risk; the cost of actual previous experience; administrative expenses; taxes; profit (he hates that word) margin and RESERVES FOR FUTURE CLAIMS,(the reserves for VA,zero;Medicaid, zero; Medicare,$31trillion UNFUNDED liability). Private insurer costs are offset by investment earnings that a “public option” won’t have. What replaces not only the investment earnings but lost investment capital for the economy? Isn’t it clear Obama wants to control both risk and capital, the 2 primary elemnts of a market economy? An unlevel playing field tilts the “game” Chicago Machine style to the “public option” and will lead, through “competition” to the desired goal, a single payor system. To paraphrase Alinsky: the organizer must have sight of the long term goal, but must work towards and appreciate UNCHANGABLE incremental successes. Go Comrade Go.
From the ABC News web site ...
“Devinsky asked the president pointedly if he would be willing to promise that he wouldn’t seek such extraordinary help for his wife or daughters if they became sick and the public plan he’s proposing limited the tests or treatment they can get.
The president refused to make such a pledge, though he allowed that if “it’s my family member, if it’s my wife, if it’s my children, if it’s my grandmother, I always want them to get the very best care ...”

All people are equal ... BUT, Obamas are MORE equal than others ...
.
But Obama claimed he quit smoking
Just like Obama claimed he quit snorting cocaine
