All the tributes here are wonderful.....witty, poetic, patriotic, informative, downright funny......just the way I'm sure Ed would have loved.
Sympathy to his family, friends, former co-workers and yes, to his many fans who still remember the best night talk show ever.

RIP Ed McMahon
and RIP to late night television and a time when late night comedians were funny, not out to destroy a family.

Ed was a pilot in WW II, but did not see action. However, he was recalled in Korea where he was an artillery spotter. Have to check my notes but I'm pretty sure Johnny Carson was also in the USAF. That would have been funny:
"ho, ho, ho, those are MiGs, Johnny!"

The person spoke on condition of anonymity to AP because he wasnt authorized to release the information.Well, I guess that makes it OK, then.

Rest in peace Ed. I hope you and Johnny are together again. Maybe Jack Paar is getting ready to retire to greater challenges in Heaven?

Ed McMahon was also a national Vice-President for MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association). He co-anchored the MDA telethon with Jerry Lewis since 1968. Thank you Ed for you many years of hard work and devotion from the rest of us MDA volunteers.

Johnny Carson, or The Tonight Show, would not have been as good without him.
Prayers for his family.

I had the pleasure of taking part in a forum that he was leading and the emcee at. It was with old TV personalities and industry people and had the chance to meet and ask him some questions.
This was only a few years ago...so sad to see him go. That injury to his neck really did him in. RIP ED...hi-ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Growing up in the 80's, I always saw this guy on TV. I didn't watch Carson, but I remember him on Star Search (a lot better show than American Idol) and those American Family Publisher 10 Million Dollars giveways, and TV ads.
And I'll never forget the SNL skits of him. "You, are correct sir!" "Yes!" "Hey-yo!"
