I wonder if the engineer was text-messaging, like in that last train crash.

Prayers up for the victims, and all those waiting for them at home.

It’s never good when the trains “accordion”.

Unbelievable the snarky comments on this thread.

Mel Brooks said:

Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die

People can be awfully callous when it's somebody else.

It may be a very long time before they know how many dead. Can’t pull the cars apart for fear of killing injured folks. We went thru this in our crash here in Ca.

Prayers Up.

Perhaps.

But commuting in DC is an awful experience and those that do the daily on Metro (me), should be allowed some leeway regarding the dangers we face. I am serious. I've been doing the Metro thing for years and am amazed that we do not have more incidents/accidents. The quality of the drivers and the equipment is stunningly low and the potential for tragedy is high. I think in the Examiner this morning was an article saying Metro was submitting a $1.4B, yes, BILLION dollar budget. . .just to run the trains inside DC. This is a case of not getting what you pay for.

Based on the facts: one train on top of the other, this is a multiple fatality event.

If that much steel is wrecked imagine what it did to the bodies inside.

Very similar to two Long Island Railroad accidents in the 1950s.

Here’s one ...

The googlemap satellite image cited higher up looks like a dogleg bend in the road, so it’s conceivable they couldn’t have seen each other, yes.

Oh god...that’s terrible. My son has quite a few friends living in DC right now. I am sure their parents are petrified.

Yeesh. That's asking for trouble in a system as messed up as DC metro.

Here in Gotham, when they're reduced to one track, they tend to have one train ping-pong back and forth, just to be safe.

My daughter just came home from University of Maryland, rode that track many times, and still has friends out there - a little decorum would be nice, folks! I'm up for jokes, but not right now. Working in public safety for 34+ years, the jokes don't work at the moment....
