Mousavi Accuses Obama of 'Misleading the World' Sunday, June 21, 2009 1:38 PM
Author and foreign policy expert Michael Ledeen has published a letter reportedly from the office of Mir Hossein Mousavi, in which the Iranian opposition leader criticizes President Barack Obama for saying Mousavi and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad are "two of a kind."
The letter, addressed to Obama, takes the president to task for the remark, calling it "a grave and deep insult, not just to Mr. Mousavi but especially against the judgment of the Iranian people, against our moral conviction and intelligence, especially those of the young generation that comprises a population of 31 million.
"It is a specially grave insult for those who are now fighting for democracy and freedom, and an unwarranted gift and even praise for [Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei, whose security forces are now killing peaceful Iranians in the streets of every major city in the country.
"Your statement misled the people of the world."
You mean when the 3:00 AM call came in, he put it on hold and called Carter to find out what to do next.
I’m a little skeptical that this came from Mousavi.
We dont have to send them guns. Just tell them if they overthrow the goofball in chief afterwards we will offer help in setting up a new goverment. Just to let them know they will have a friend would be enough.
And to compare our elections to Irans is insulting. Our system, while not perfect, is the best in the world.
Seems like a damn good time for 50 Mossad agents to sneak into Iran as "Hamas" or "Hizbollah" fighters. And a good time for an Israeli submarine to unload off the island with the Bushear reactor.
I KNOW the true meaning of democracy, but it worked so well last time we interfered in Iranian politics... (/sarc) or did we forget?
President Bush's policy was to criticize Ahmadinejad and support the protesters. Yet the protests have only increased.
Obama does no favors to the protesters in Iran with his policy of not supporting them.
I want to share this message that was posted on a ‘safe’ website for Iranians to use. I won’t link it. Just the message:
“I am an Iranian living in Tehran. i just wanted to thank you for all your supports and all the things you have done and are doing. Even if we can’t achieve our goal, it is enough that the world knows what we shrived for, what we shed blood for and how we craved to gain our freedom.
remember us as who we really us, people free at heart if not free themselves. remember that we tried and died in our struggles to gain our freedom. We are not what our nation’s leaders represent. it’s enough for us that the world knows and remember us as such.
my brothers and sisters all over the world, from any nation and religion, we thank you. we heard your voice and our heart is warmed by the fact that even if we face defeat, you’ll remember us. thank you again, God bless you all”
So...it...begins.
You’re right: there seems to be a sort of irony there. I admire their bravery.
Memo this to Barry, kkthx.
Takes one to know one. At least Obama is who we thought he was. A pacifist and socialist.
Mousavi misled Persian people into thinking he was a puppet of the Islamic Clerical state back in the Reagan years. Than he campaigned on hope and change and won 3 decades later.
Who is the real Mousavi? It doesn’t really matter I guess, we’ll never find out. He is willing to be a martyr for freedom now.
This is really not about him. He’s just a figurehead.
I think that being in a position to be able to criticize the US prez credibly may put Mousavi in a stronger position. I don’t see how being viewed as the preferred candidate of the US would help him. It’s sort of similar to the old ironic “Nixon to China” logic. As a relatively moderate politician in Iran, Mousavi if anything probably has an additional need to distance himself from Iran’s conventional Western bogeys. Certainly, 0bama’s statements have been anemic and fairly indifferent, no question about that.
WOW.... Yes finally they start to see that Obama is all smoke and mirrors an empty suit, words on a prompter.
Now that he is exposed hopefully his poll numbers plummet before he can do much more damage.
Like Trosky to Stalin! Or even Stalin to Lenin, Trosky to Lenin. Peas in a pod with slightly different takes on minor issues but the end result being the same for the common people. A good analogy. I’ve been trying to explain this and you hit the nail on the head. Thank you, I agree.
It’s hard not to support those that rise up against tyranny but let’s be clear headed here, this is a lesser of two evils unless they throw Mousavi out as well.
No one is advocating for military support. But the US needs to demonstrate support for freedom and democracy, like Reagan did vis a vis Solidarity in Poland.
Its not interfering by stating a preference. Something like: "The United States welcomes the opportunity to closely work with a true democratically elected government of Iran-- whenever that may be."
I rather liked the behavior of the Australian Government (Embassy) during the protests yesterday. Without condemning the current government in Iran, they simply opened their embassy doors to any protesters needing sanctuary from the police. Many other countries followed suit.
There are many ways to make an opinion known without the need for boots on the ground.

Imus: Well. What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: our system doesnt allow those people to become President, those people meaning people THAT smart and THAT capable
Imus: What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: Pardon?
Imus: What is his IQ?
Historian Michael Beschloss: Uh. I would say its probably - hes probably the smartest guy ever to become President.
Imus: Thats not what I asked you. I asked you what his IQ was.
Historian Michael Beschloss: You know that I dont know and Id have to find someone with more expertise
Imus: You dont know.
Historian Michael Beschloss: What do YOU think it is?
Imus: I dont know. Well mine is 164. I dont know what that means but its a little higher than normal I guess.
Historian Michael Beschloss: Well its way beyond genius which does not surprise me.

America always has stood for Freedom, Liberty and Justice in the World no matter what Obama and his liberal idiots think. America is a force for good and always has been. If we do not get involved then we allow the oppression to continue unchecked. If we do get involved and I don;t mean militarily I mean diplomatically, I mean with strong words that land on the side of the people of IRAN that land on the side of Freedom and Liberty.
Did you ever notice how those two words are absent from every obama speech. Obama going to Europe and appologizing for American Arrogance was a crock...
but now America really does have something to appologize for... Weakness in our leadership.
