Don't you think it tells us a lot that the Iranian authorities are NOT shooting in mass? I think it says that Iran may be at a "Poland/East Germany" moment where they are more afraid of shooting than not shooting.
I believe they already have a lot of police and military refusing. The only ones firing now are the Basif, and they are typcially foreigners, not Persian.
Many had the same thoughts with Carter because of the depth of his and his administrations ties to marxistic thought back then in those very bad times.
We must be prepared if we are unsuccessful, indeed, we should always be prepared, but we also have to work for it and do all in our power to make it work according to the constitution.
I will not, and cannot give up on that until they force it themselves...although, as I say, we should be prepared for them to do just that at any time.
We shall see then, what transpires and respond accordingly.

Except for the fact you are under the slavery of islam good luck ever finding freedom until you buck that...yep, we are in a better position, a heck of a better position.
Give me any country where Christianity is its foundation over an islamic country any day...no matter how bad that country is at least there is hope there for future freedom. Even if you manage to find some freedoms the fundamentalist (those following your religion devoutly) will always fight to replace those freedoms with islamic law and with the ebb and flow of politics they will win again sometime in the future. Yours will be a constant, never ending fight against your own religion just to gain said freedoms much less keep them.
One of the Basif HQs was burnt down last night so I imagine some arms are already filtering out there.
It is surpriosing that after that incident, the Mullahs didn't take the gloves completely off. Makes you wonder just how many loyal military they have, willing to go that far?
If they have what they deam enough, and go for it, that's when you will see whole sale military and police units turning on the despotic units and go to civil war.
My guess is the Mullahs fear this and that is why they are trying to sit it out with less force...in fact, I can think of no other reason for these fundamentalists to do so.
All the more reason for our administration to encourage the fall of the mullahs.

I would think that after the first day, there would be protesters with backpacks full of containers of motor oil and long lengths of wire.
Driving your motorcycle over an oil slick has the makings of a bad day, as would running into a wire strung between light posts, set about neck-high for a rider.
If this keeps going much longer, then if the rebels win, the mullahs better head for the borders. The rebel deaths will be laid at the feet of the clerical establishment.
I imagine the results of vastly outnumbering ones opponent in battle were discovered by very early humans - and probably discussed over a dinner of grilled mastodon steaks.
I keep thinking of long poles jammed into spokes or into biker’s faces ala the movie Braveheart. Then a whole bunch of poles smashing down onto tumbling biker’s bodies...

I’m praying the regime changes but whether that would bring a significant difference in Iran’s foreign policy stance, I don’t think so.

I remember the last "mini-riot" they had a few years back. The basij thugs came out on the motorcycles, and it was over. This time, the basij are being besieged.

I watched the smoke columns rise over downtown, and then in other neighborhoods one after the other from an office building in Rossyln VA, across from Georgetown. It looked like the city had been bombed.
That photo doesn't show the half of it.
Police, National Guard, and Federal troops established a cordon sanitaire around DC at the Beltway. D.C. Stadium was used as an open air detention center for quite awhile.

If you back far enough, a Kurd led the Turks to power. Another Kurd also led Egypt when it took Jerusalem back from the Crusaders. More recently the Kurds fought Saddam Hussein for years. Saddam was also hung for using WMD on the Kurds. That's probably why the Turks are set against a Kurdish State. It would be a powerhouse with the Oil Money flowing.
