Here's an aerial photo of the Washington DC riots in 1968
I watched the smoke columns rise over downtown, and then in other neighborhoods one after the other from an office building in Rossyln VA, across from Georgetown. It looked like the city had been bombed.
That photo doesn't show the half of it.
Police, National Guard, and Federal troops established a cordon sanitaire around DC at the Beltway. D.C. Stadium was used as an open air detention center for quite awhile.

My comment about the 10,000 rocks was tongue-in-cheek. Maybe I expected a little too much from my fellow Freepers and Freepettes since it seemed to fall flat. . :(
