My guess is that there are a lot of westerns there working in the oil industry and English is kind of the universal language of the west?

In the late 1950’s, my father wrote the obituary of the international language movement (you remember, Esparanto, and all that stuff). The key sentence was “There is an international language: English.”

Its what they’ll wear here, when the riots begin in this country.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winner!

Though probably our tax dollars bought them for the thugs . . . ordered by OThuga, of course.

“Police” in Farsi means We’re from the government and where here to help you. In English, the word is “Democrat.”

English is the international language. For universal functions like police, they use English and usually the spelling in the official language of the country.

It is the same with the word Taxi and ATM.

And if you are buying a computer, you will be amazed at how many English words have migrated into the local language (CPU, hard drive, etc).

Great site. Do they sell to the general public as well?

They also have it printed on their riot shields and many Persians speak English as well. Who knows and why does it matter?

They also wrestle. They were invaded by Alexander the Great too.

Since France used to trade more with Iran under Chirac, uniform items could have come from France, where the spelling of ‘Police’ is identical to English.

Yes, that is the obvious explanation. France has long had a healthy export business in military and para-military gear. The police shields and uniforms were undoubtedly from those French sources - perhaps even surplus hand-me-downs.
