Hate rhetoric doesn't advance abortion debate
NJ Star Ledger ^ | June 19, 2009 | Raymond A. Schroth

Posted on 06/21/2009 8:12:30 AM PDT by presidio9

Last winter, the Boston College security policeman phoned me to warn me that someone had placed a sign on my car in the parking garage that suggested I might be in danger. It called me a bunch of foul names, including "baby killer!"

I have just returned to Jersey City after a year at Boston College writing a book on Rev. Robert F. Drinan, S.J., the B.C. law school dean elected to Congress from Massachusetts in 1970 who campaigned against the Vietnam War and called for the impeachment of President Nixon on the basis of his illegal bombing of Cambodia. Drinan was elected five times, but was forced out of office in 1980 by Pope John Paul II, largely because of his support for legalized abortion.

The anonymous vandal in the Boston garage had no idea whose car it was. He or she seems to have been enraged by the rear bumper sticker, put in place during the presidential campaign, which read: "CATHOLIC DEMOCRATS/Blessed Are the Peacemakers." In his/her warped mind, since I was voting for Barack Obama, I must be the kind of fellow who kills babies.

Somehow this rhetoric has made its way into the abortion fracas. I have to call it a fracas, since it certainly is not a civil discussion nor a dialogue. A letter to the editor in the latest Brooklyn Tablet, the Catholic diocesan newspaper, calls President Obama a "smooth-talking baby killer."

The term has become the verbal equivalent of that four-letter obscenity angry people blurt out when they can't think of anything

You might reflect on the fact that Raymond Schroth, S. J., is simply one more example of the kind of phony leftist impersonating an actual Catholic priest that would justify the suppression of the Jesuit order for about seventy years until they are all dead and the order of St. Ignatius can be re-established as God's Marines. I had a very fine Jesuit prep school education so long ago that most Jebbies were still Catholic. When the despicable Drinan showed up on campus to debate Bill Buckley before prep school students and university students alike, the prep school Jesuit teachers ritually turned their backs to Drinan every time he opened his infernal mouth.

Fr. Raymond Schroth is a leftist (equating "Catholic" Democrats with "peace") while apparently having no problem with lavender Bernardin or Drinan's enthusiastic cheerleading for the wanton slaughter of tens of millions of innocent unborn babies. No one killed Drinan. No one will kill Schroth. Their respective eternal destinations, in the absence of repentance, however.

Despising and shunning someone and killing someone are clean, different things.

The more accurate rendition is: Support the survival of innocent unborn babies against the ravages of Obamanation and his infamous allies, or we will have to notice that one's salvation is in question and won't be shoved down one's unwilling throat by a loving Father in heaven who gave one free will. There ARE (eternal) consequences to unrepented bad decisions as Schroth well knows.

An Apologia Pro Vita Drinan we can also do without.

Since Schroth admits voting for Obamanation, he is a killer of babies second hand. Schroth should be silenced by Church authorities, defrocked and denied the Eucharist, and formally excommunicated as an example to other phonies like him. And, for his sympathizers (not you, I know) NO, his support for cowardice in the face of our nation’s enemies or for socialism now do not mitigate his evil in the slightest. They add to it.

I’m inclined to let God sort all that out.

I'm sure you're trying to make some kind of point with that list, but I can't quite see it.

No matter what angle I look from, that huge mountain of fifty million dead babies murdered under the American Abortion Regime keeps getting in the way.

1. Raymond Schroth is the reason that RAYMOND SCHROTH is no longer Catholic. He is not a reason for you to deny yourself the graces available through the Mass and the sacraments.

2. Liberation theology was suppressed effectively by John Paul the Great and by B-XVI who was his prefect of the Holy Office or Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. There are still sinners posing as Catholics and who reject Catholic teaching on the subject but what else is new? Is there ANY church whose every leader is sinless??

3. Marx was actually baptized Catholic at about 13 years of age at his own insistence but had become a full-blown Satanist by the time he began university studies at about 18.

4. You are giving "liberation theology" advocates and conspirators far too much credit for influence.

5. The fact that the RCC has the Mass and the 7 Sacraments and genuine and valid apostolic succession trumps everything else. Come on back.

6. I don't expect to convince you but I do expect to try. I might not try but for the fact that Wintertime is an otherwise lovable FReeper for whom I have deep respect particularly on gummint skewel questions.

7. God bless you and yours.

Mr. Meangenes: When irrational liberalism put the left beyond the reach of facts and logic and the alternative became sitting idly by while the leftists perpetrate the ongoing holocaust by surgery alone of 50 million innocent babies in our country alone, harassment and intimidation became conservative values.

If the price of stopping the murders is harassment and intimidation and, perhaps, even criticism so be it.

Murdering the occasional abortionist is not justifiable. Nor is it justifiable to let that abortionist and his/her buddies alone. Conservatism is not knee-jerk libertoonianism.

MrM: No, but a near complete values transplant from a morally conservative American patriot might have done the trick.

Love the way you define “left” and “right” !

No matter. I’ve expressed my opinions quite clearly.
Last I looked, I was still free to do so.

You must be one of those narrow-minded Catholics. That is good. So am I.

I love my definitions too.

The late Senator Scoop Jackson was once quoted as saying: "I take second place to no man in calling myself a liberal but I don't have to be a damn fool." That was a reaction to the rise of the McGovernite irrationals in the Demonrat Party.

In a similar vein, I was once a state officer of the Libertarian Party. I simply resigned after Roe vs. Wade was handed down since libertarians usually thought it good.

I'm torn between this perspective and the view that those who are determined to promote abortion here do not deserve a hearing.

I'm of the opinion that the pro-abortion side is adequately presented in the articles posted as threads, we don't need pro-abortion FReepers any more than we need pro-Obama FReepers.

And since we’ve already got some pro-abortion FReepers, we damn sure don’t need any new ones!

I’d say-looking at the responses here to date - you’ve proved the author’s point.

Please tell me be very specific in explaining exactly what you meant to say here. In light of recent events in the news, it looks very much like you are making an accusation that you can't substantiate. Your very short tenure here on FR makes you look very much like a troll.

None of the first nine responses came close to proving the author's point, let alone threatening to kill anyone.

For the moment, I won't be reporting you to the moderator (and, yes, they can shut down an entire IP address so you can't just create a new screen name), but only because I want to hear you explain yourself first.
