Last winter, the Boston College security policeman phoned me to warn me that someone had placed a sign on my car in the parking garage that suggested I might be in danger. It called me a bunch of foul names, including "baby killer!"
I have just returned to Jersey City after a year at Boston College writing a book on Rev. Robert F. Drinan, S.J., the B.C. law school dean elected to Congress from Massachusetts in 1970 who campaigned against the Vietnam War and called for the impeachment of President Nixon on the basis of his illegal bombing of Cambodia. Drinan was elected five times, but was forced out of office in 1980 by Pope John Paul II, largely because of his support for legalized abortion.
The anonymous vandal in the Boston garage had no idea whose car it was. He or she seems to have been enraged by the rear bumper sticker, put in place during the presidential campaign, which read: "CATHOLIC DEMOCRATS/Blessed Are the Peacemakers." In his/her warped mind, since I was voting for Barack Obama, I must be the kind of fellow who kills babies.
Somehow this rhetoric has made its way into the abortion fracas. I have to call it a fracas, since it certainly is not a civil discussion nor a dialogue. A letter to the editor in the latest Brooklyn Tablet, the Catholic diocesan newspaper, calls President Obama a "smooth-talking baby killer."
The term has become the verbal equivalent of that four-letter obscenity angry people blurt out when they can't think of anything

Where to begin with this comment? The problem that this so-called priest is not addressing is that abortion is the same thing as murder in the eyes of the Catholic Church. We are currently living in a country where a mother can legally murer her child if she doesn't want it. If all mothers were murdering their babies, the first step might be to teach mothers to love their babies, as Father Ray suggests. What we have instead is a small percentage of mothers who don't give a sh-t murdering their children because the law says it's ok. The appropriate Catholic response is to condemn the behavior of all involved (in defense of the innocents), and then worry about immortal souls afterwards.
You must be because you are supporting the most pro-death president ever. Pacifism kills.
This reader has wisdom.
I, for one, would be extremely interested to know EXACTLY how that sign indicated Father Raymond might be “in danger.” Somthing tells me that if the threat were at all credible the sanctimonimous prick just might be inclined to be more specific.
Leftie smooth-talkers like this sneering hypocrite were just fine with calling our troops babykillers.
It seems to have worked just fine for the ones who want to destroy the youngest babies.
All they do is spew hatred toward their opponents and they continue to be able to legally kill.
I’d say-looking at the responses here to date - you’ve proved the author’s point.
“Support our viewpoint or we’ll kill you !”
Yup.
It proves that fetuses are living human beings. It gives a face to Jennifer's tragically departed daughter.
That is how you win the hearts and mind of Americans. You do not win the hearts and minds by putting threats on their windshields like hoodlums. Shame on whoever did that.
He supports the political party Raymond does not obey YHvH when He commanded us: Raymond clearly does not accept Yah'shua as the L-rd of his life.
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
which endorses and promotes the torture
and murder of 3500 innocent American
each and every day. Deu 5:17 'You shall not murder.
Raymond does not love the L-rd. Jhn 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Raymond grieves the Ru'ach HaKodesh Eph 4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
“I have to call it a fracas, since it certainly is not a civil discussion nor a dialogue.”
How does one discuss murdering babies in a civil manner?
God's hate speech.
It called me a bunch of foul names, including “baby killer!”
Okay. The question we as readers must now ask is, Are you a baby killer? Do you in any way support the deaths of the most innocent (babies)
You do not have to be in the procedure roomperformiong an abortion tobe a baby killer. We currently have a President who is ababy killer. Not because he performsabortions but because he writes laws votes on laws and passes laws that perpetuate the killing of babies. Now ifyou do not in anyway support that or helpkeep that in existance then being called a baby killer could be considered hateful. But if you do support it then why be ashamed of it? Why not embrace it?
Good question.
Also, when has the struggle to make elective abortion illegal... again... turned into a “debate”?
In his/her warped mind, since I was voting for Barack Obama, I must be the kind of fellow who kills babies.
Sorta like the Germans that voted for Hilter might have been the kind of people that killed Jews....
Seems like a logical conclusion to me....
Hate rhetoric doesn’t advance abortion debate
Nothing to debate.
As a human being, you are either okay with killing babies or you are not.
Debate doesn’t come in to play anywhere in that....
This smuck is the type would would complain to the Nazis that there was no toilet facilities on “The Trains.” Yes ash hole lets have a civil discussion about how we can humanely murder babies.
“Hate rhetoric doesn’t advance abortion debate”
Although it is incorrect to call it “hate rhetoric,” this sort of blunt honesty does indeed advance the cause of reducing the number of abortions.
The baby killers are interested only in a debate that holds out the possibilty of you coming to agree with them; IOW, a carefully scripted “debate” that presents only one side of the issue.
They are not interested in a debate that holds out the possibility of them coming to agree with you.
