The Murder of Civil Life
Canada Free Press ^ | Saturday, June 20, 2009 | By Bruce Walker

Posted on 06/20/2009 12:08:31 AM PDT by JohnHuang2

The putrid comments by Letterman about Sarah Palin and her daughter, and the dethronement of Carrie Prejean for the vice of honesty bring home just how savagely civil life has been murdered by the Left. We no longer have a civil public life. It has been crushed between pinchers of enraged nihilism and fantasy causes.

“Feminists” or the Ladies Auxiliary of Marxist Enmity (LAME) should be threatening boycotts of the CBS or demanding the de-politicization of beauty contests, but that presumes LAME cares about women: its disciples care only about venting their private fury towards an empty life.

What has happened to Sarah and Carrie has happened to our whole social fabric. Decent people relating in normal lives have traditionally been able to share values: truth, learning, amusement, family, country and faith. These have been disappearing from our social lives; each strangled and then hauled off for a clandestine burial. Continues...

David Letterman's fantasizing about Palin's 14-year-old daughter Willow getting raped by a Yankees baseball player was so despicable, N.O.W. issued a very brief statement. It was titled, 'Covering Our Arses', and ended by attacking Rush Limbaugh and conservatives. N.O.W. did place Letterman in its "media hall of shame" -- which I'm sure has got the misogynist pig quaking in his boots.

At first, most liberals pretended the controversy sparked by Letterman's tasteless "joke" didn't exist, insisting the "joke" was very tasty because, in the view of warmhearted and tolerant libbies, Palin's children are fair game merely because Palin didn't kill them in the womb. And Palin is fair game because, unlike liberal women, she's beautiful.

But then Letterman did a switcheroo mid-week, 'clarifying' that he was only making fun of Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol. Hmmm, why would anyone think he was talking about Willow, who was at the game, and not Bristol, who wasn't at the game?

Letterman said, "These [were] not jokes about her 14-year-old daughter." These were jokes about her 18-year-old daughter. 'Clarifying' further, he added, "I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex . . . with a 14-year-old girl." I only joke about raping or having sex with an 18-year-old girl!

(One awkward moment for Letterman during his 'clarification', a hideous Eliot Spitzer look-alike in the audience -- with a John Denver hairdo -- turned out to be Letterman's lovely bride Regina Lasko.)

Taking their cue from Letterman, the always scrupulously fair and balanced media have all accepted at face value his lame-o 'clarification', based on zero evidence, that the "joke" was about Bristol because nothing about Letterman's dysfunctional personal history suggests he's a pedophile. For example, he started dating Regina Lasko in 1986 -- 8 full years after Regina's 'Welcome to manhood!' 18th birthday.

In an article cryptically entitled, "Letterman Sends No Regrets," the Washington Post insisted that Letterman's "jokes" about teenage girls getting raped don't "rise to a career-threatening level," bragging that "the pressure on Letterman to apologize publicly is low."

Like all the nutjobs on the left, Letterman is obsessed with Sarah Palin. When Palin became McCain's running-mate, libbies waited all of 2 seconds before having paroxysms of rage. She drives liberals even more bananas than they already are because she's everything they're not -- beautiful and intelligent, quick-witted and classy, vigorous and courageous, charming and funny, successful and happily married. And if libbies are this nutty already, imagine when President Palin enters her second term?

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

Your stuff is always great, but this one caused me to spray my monitor laughing!!

I've seen her picture, BTW, and she is definitely GUILTY!! A guy with Letterman's money shouldn't be reduced to taking Janet Reno's cast offs.

Guys, I think we ought to "secede" New England and New York City instead of talking about ceding them the high ground. Just kick them out of the Union for falling for Marxism, and call that a job.

Eventually someone will get around to nuking them, and we can quietly reannex 'em and leave it in second- and third-growth forest.

If they didn't fear her, they would ignore her IMHO.

Thank you so very much for your wonderful wrap-up essay, dear JohnHuang2!

This speech that I plan to give this Fourth of July spells it out. It's a five-minute history lesson and a call to action. I will not be silenced.

I have a somewhat different take on these attempts to smear Sarah Palin...

I was around in the late ‘70’s. I saw Carter in action, and I saw the way the press tried almost the same thing on Reagan, albeit they weren't as vicious as the attacks on Palin. I guess its a sign of our times that the degree of filth is higher.

But, the press reaction was basically the same: They spent the period from ‘76, when Reagan first ran for President, to ‘80 trashing him and calling him stupid at every turn.

As we all know, Reagan withstood it all and went on to slaughter Carter in ‘80, in spite of the four-year-long smearing.

In a backward sort of way, I'm encouraged by this action of the press. It's keeping Sarah Palin visible, and it's developing a sense of unfairness that will help her in '12, as it helped Reagan in '80. Elitists such as Charles Krautheimer may not like her, but the people who cast ballots in elections do, and they're liking her more as they see how she behaves under pressure.

The rest of the press sure feels threatened by her, and I think that's a very good thing.

Agreed!

BTW, just as a side note because I have not seen it mentioned. On Letterman’s June 5th show, he slipped and called OBAMA...OSAMA. Yes, he did and he just about choked.
Remember all the shame heaped on Cheney when he made the same slip? But no admonishment for the CBS protected.

My bad...but that made me LOL!

You were a busy little bee last night, but every single word you wrote was sheer poetry.
Thank you for all of your efforts on FR.
You help to make the times in which we're living now bearable. ;o)
