Fox ^ | 6/19/09 | staff

Aside from a briefly worded statement about a "friendly" conversation she had with an Army brigadier general after dressed him down a day earlier for calling her "ma'am," Sen. Barbara Boxer remained silent Friday in the face of growing criticism as to whether she owed an apology.

“I’m surprised he didn’t call her sir”.
I would have. Just out of habit.
And she worked so hard for that title? WHAT A SELF ABSORBED LITTLE PERSON!!! She has NO idea what it takes to get to a general rank in the military. She should have been much more respectfull to him, but she flashed the arrogance of the obama party. Goofy kalifornian does not understand that but for people like the General, she is able to sleep peacefully at night and still has the right to speak her mind, little as it is.
If you can read this, thank a teacher
If you can read this in English, thank a soldier.
Are you listening, boxer?

Just to note, I refuse to capitalize the names of the traitor scum in Washington who are attempting to subvert our Constitution and destroy our way of life. Just my way of putting it back at them. I’m too old to be shouted down.

In the movies I always liked it when somebody said “Yes, sahib!”

In the South, “Ma’am” offers more respect than “Senator”.

Ma’am is just the female equivalent of Sir. I am sure no disrespect was intended. What an arrogant, pompous lady the Senatrix is.

This isn’t about whether the General was asked to call her “senator”. It’s about the disrespectful attitude and tone that was used to tell him to call her “senator”.

She didn’t address him by his title, or even “sir”. She owes an apology, but she’s obviously not decent enough to recognize that. At this late date, an apology would be meaningless anyway.

It’s unfortunate that her own action accomplished just the opposite of what she said she wanted. She brought disrespect upon herself, both as a woman and as a senator, by her her own disrespectful attitude and tone toward him.

She’s just another arrogant ass. I know the competetion is tough (considering John Kerry, etc) but she is clearly one of the most stupid senators in Washington.

No, she doesn’t owe him an apology. The people of CA owe the apology for their lack of intelligence in repeatedly picking Boxer.

Yes Boxer does owe him an apology. The people of CA owe the entire Country an apology.

There must be someone in CA that could beat Boxer in her next run.

She doesn’t owe an apology.

If Boxer had called the general “sir” and he had asked her to use the title “general” nobody would think anything of it. I don’t like Boxer either but this is a tempest in a teapot.

No it is important because she overreacted. If it had gone down like you suggested, no sweat. I will respect a person and address them as they wish to be addressed (within reason). But don’t have a cow in public over being called an honorific you don’t prefer. That shows a childish mentality.

It was Barbara Boxer's very obvious condescension toward an Army General, during a public hearing as well as her underlying pettiness in finding the salutation "Ma'am" somehow offensive, that has made this even remotely newsworthy. General Walsh was being respectful to the Senator but she apparently thought he wasn't quite respectful enough,.

The fact is that a majority of Americans likely hold an Army brigadier General in higher esteem than a political hack like Senator Barbara Boxer and that her 'request' of the general was seen as petulant and even curlish, considering the fact that the Army officer was in no way being disrespectful to the woman.

When you have to demand 'respect', you probably don't really deserve it.

She doesn’t owe any apologies. She has a right to express her preference on address.

This is really a foolish issue.

Since “Senator” is now a synonym for “clueless asshat” she has a point.
