AMA to oppose Obama's health care reform
Examiner.com ^ | 6-10-2009 | Dianna Cotter

...concerns have been raised about the course the President has thus far chosen to reveal. Robert Pear for the New York Times reports that the AMA will oppose a government sponsored insurance plan that Mr. Obama’s plan is thus far espousing. The opposition of the AMA could well be an insurmountable hurdle to the Obama Administration’s plans for Socialized Health Care.

The Times goes further:

“But in comments submitted to the Senate Finance Committee, the American Medical Association said: “The A.M.A. does not believe that creating a public health insurance option for non-disabled individuals under age 65 is the best way to expand health insurance coverage and lower costs. The introduction of a new public plan threatens to restrict patient choice by driving out private insurers, which currently provide coverage for nearly 70 percent of Americans.”

If private insurers are pushed out of the market, the group said, “the corresponding surge in public plan participation would likely lead to an explosion of costs that would need to be absorbed by taxpayers.””

I think it will go the other way.

I think the feds will offer to pay off all existing medical-school loans and pick up the tab for current and future medical-school tuition in exchange for salary caps.

Oh, and we'll finally see “tort reform” when the feds are in charge. There will be no more frivolous lawsuits because there will be no more lawsuits...at all. And that will be a bad thing, because the people will have Zero recourse for when the feds’ medical system kills and maims and ruins.

They may fight it but it won’t do any good. The reason? Too many fools have been indoctrinated that it will be heaven on earth. They refuse to see that it is actually a death sentence for them. They will, however, march to their deaths singing and chanting praises to obama.

Fools and idiots did in one day what all the Nations in the world could not do in over 200 years. Destroy the United States of America.

So true....but before the door gets slammed on the USA its ironic that just a few will realize that OBAMA is the devil himself.

They’ve certainly earned it a lot more than the Jennifer Anistons and Michael Vicks of this world.

First of all it is not fair to associate/compare Jennifer Aniston with Michael Vicks.

As far as people like Aniston making their $ all the power to them because that's what the open market is for. But they should rightfully be called out if they support the Dems redistribution of wealth and yet do all that they can to "keep theirs."

I think what you are getting at is that when it comes to the importance of employment, a single docter that saves hundreds, if not thousands, of lives in a career is certainly more worthy of an existence than any actor, singer, etc.

We NEED doctors; actors/entertainers are an option and often a neighbor, workmate, buddy, relative fill the entertainment/humor desire just fine.

It was never my intent to compare Aniston to Vick in the arena of Vick’s animal abuse. I was making the point that many actors and athletes are overpaid, and chose an example for each. I would have chosen another athlete, but almost every famous athlete has a following of fans on FR, and their hero-worship of their favorite athlete would interfere with their ability to see my point. Therefore, I had to find an athlete that no FReeper liked and settled on Vick.

The AMA has drifted left over the years, so this move is a bit surprising, but it is VERY good news for our side, or anyone else who doesn’t want a public option (aka full-blown socialist medicine).

“People will stop going to medical school, there will end up being a shortage of good doctors on a far more extreme level than anyone imagines right now.”

The US will just issue more visas to graduates of the Bombay School of Medicine and Convenience Store Management. Problem solved !

“Liberalism is fine for the other guy.”

That’s because liberalism breeds hypocrisy.

"Fuggedabout any doc ever taking time with you. A lot of time. Especially the small office doc."

My Mom's doc is old (and old school) and about to retire. For some reason he joined up with a mega doc organization and hated it. He just left to spend his last few years as a doc on his own again.

He told my Mom that one of the reasons he left is because they insisted he not spend any more than 8 minutes with a patient.

With Obama care we'd be lucky to get 3 minutes of a doc's time, guaranteed

“Liberalism is the drug of the complacent.”

And of the envious and the lazy. These same people will be yelling the loudest when they have to wait in line for their ‘free’ health care..

“People will stop going to medical school”

already happening. But will get astronomically worse if the government steps in.

I read that under the Mass State health plan visits to ER’s have gone up tremendously. Supposedly visits to ER are a problem when the uninsured use them instead of office visits. Well in Mass, doctor’s offices are overwhelmed so now the insured are using the ER’s to get medical treatment. One myth busted.

From the NY Times article

“Under a proposal favored by many Democrats, doctors who take Medicare patients would also have to participate in the new public plan. Democrats say that requirement is needed to make sure the public plan can go into business right away with a large network of doctors.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/11/us/politics/11health.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print

Watch the number of doctors accepting Medicare drop dramatically if this happens.
