Barack Obama's gov't-mandated diet plan (Ruh roh)
Politico.com ^ | 6/10/2009 | CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN

Any health care reform plan that Obama signs is almost certain to call for nutrition counseling, obesity screenings and wellness programs at workplaces and community centers. He wants more time in the school day for physical fitness, more nutritious school lunches and more bike paths, walking paths and grocery stores in underserved areas.

The president is filling top posts at Health and Human Services with officials who, in their previous jobs, outlawed trans fats, banned public smoking or required restaurants to provide a calorie count with that slice of banana cream pie.

Even Congress is getting into the act, giving serious consideration to taxing sugary drinks and alcohol to help pay for the overhaul.

To some, it smacks of a “nanny state on steroids” — but for others who fret that America is turning into one big Overeaters Anonymous meeting, Obama’s prescription is like a low-fat dream come true.

Do not get your blood pressure to high when talking about the media. It is an absolute fact that not only the media is so biased in favor of Obama and the left but the media is Obama and the left. It is the media who made Obama and without the media Obama would not even be the democrat nominee let alone President and that is ad true as 1+1=2. The media supports Obama more than he supports himself.

There is a reason why Obama is destroying the foundations of our Republic without any fear or hesitation, there is a reason why Obama lies with such shocking shamelessness and brazenness, there is a reason why he behaves is such shocking hypocritical ways, the reason is he knows that the media is 100% there to protect him, support him, spread his destructive socialist agenda, and destroy anyone who dares to criticize him.

I’m all in favor of these initiatives.

Yep!

I'm in favor of them being enacted in the private sector.

So the solution to higher taxes or insurance premiums is more fascist control over personal decisions?

Wow... how far we’ve fallen when this idea is promoted on a “conservative” site.

What a lot of people don’t realize, the morons in the WH for instance, is that diseases, like cancer for example, take hold OVER TIME. That is the key....over time. So many of the cancers out there today started in our bodies 15 to 20 years ago. 80% of the cancers are non smoking related! So...what’s in the water, food, refined sugars, household chemicals, etc. that we have been ingesting over the years to have cancer form in our bodies? And now we’ll get no treatment for it, when it was not our fault?

Obesity... they need to watch here because some people are born with their maternal “fat depots”. Meaning that if your mother had wide hips & thighs, that the female children in the family will most likely be the same. This is certainly hereditary, and the person should not be punished for it. These people have to work a little harder at keeping their weight down, but that is all. That doesn’t mean they’re lazy or slovenly.

That’s fine if the manufacturers of some of the products out there want to make healthier foods for consumption, but this govt run bull is what points a finger at people. And its another example of a few bad apples ruining things for the whole lot. There are people out there who are in excellent shape & health, and they enjoy their sweets from time to time...and now if they want a Coke, they’re going to have to pay higher tax on it? And anyone knows who enjoys a cold, crisp Coke, even in the dead of winter, knows that the diet cokes, caffeine free cokes, etc, all taste like crapt, and you don’t get that “bite” on the back of your throat when you drink it!

I think school kids could have private counseling, with their parents present, to go over a healthier diet plan for the child. I think that’s okay. But to put into law such things, I believe is one more way to take control of the masses.

/ramble off

I, for one, am tired of standing behind a 400 pound woman in the grocery store line who pays for her potato chips and orange sodas with my money.

Agreed. Food stamps should be like WIC - limited to staples and not junk food.

is almost certain --strikes me as hysterical panic.

Wait until it happens - you'd gain greater credibility. Otherwise, you risk being like a "Chicken Little" always pronouncing doom and gloom and never believed -- even when there really was doom and gloom.

What problem do you have with a private health insurer that offers lower cost policies to those who stay fit?

...grocery stores in underserved areas.

What authority does the govt. have to mandate where a PRIVATE company builds a grocery store? If there were a need, one would already be there.

This isn’t about our health, it’s about raising Government revenue.

Obesity is a greater public health hazard than smoking. 30% of the population is obese. Not just overweight but FAT! Obesity adds $15,000-20,000 to the average lifetime healthcare cost. It triples the incidence of cancer, doubles the risk of diabetes, and significantly increases the risk of arthritis, high blood pressure, and coronary disease. It’s your business, if you overeat and under exercise, but when it starts to cost me money in the form of higher insurance premiums or taxes, it then becomes MY business. I’m all in favor of these initiatives.

Then you deserve whatever tyranny comes your way. It doesn't cost you a dime if someone has health problems because of overeating or being fat, the two things are not necessarily tied together. The "I am for it if it keeps me from having to pay for someone else" meme is just BS. Those are the words of a liberal, not a conservative. I pay for my own health costs, thank you and I want you and the government to stay the he** out of my life.

So then let insurance companies charge the obese policy holder more. How can you be in favor of the government mandating how, when and what a citizen eats or exercises? Where would it stop? This is how they gain power. I guess, in this instance, with your support.

“What authority does the govt. have to mandate where a PRIVATE company builds a grocery store? If there were a need, one would already be there.”

Lack of need has nothing to do with the lack of grocery stores in the ghetto.

They wont build them there because the ghetto dwellers ( zero's base) rob them blind!

And then, when some entrepreneurial Asian puts in a grocery to serve a need in the community,

the race baiters call them “blood suckers” because they charge higher prices (to cover their security and loss), and “take money out of the neighborhood”.

Why doesn’t some “upstanding citizen” who lives in the neighborhood open a store, then?

Duh... fix the character of the culture, and most of your problems would disappear.

There seems to be some sort of reflex in the homo-erotically inclined to hate fat people.

That's insane. My health insurance premiums go up 15-20% each year because of other people's expenses, not because of mine. Who do you think pays for the uninsured care hospitals and doctors give out free? Right, people who have insurance.
