High court won't block Chrysler sale

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court has cleared the way for Chrysler's sale to Fiat, turning down a last-ditch bid by opponents of the deal.

The court said late Tuesday it had rejected a plea to block the sale of most of Chrysler's assets to the Italian automaker. Chrysler, Fiat and the Obama administration had warned that the high court's intervention could have scuttled the sale.

A federal appeals court in New York had earlier approved the sale, but gave opponents until Monday afternoon to try to get the Supreme Court to intervene.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg ordered a temporary delay just before a 4 p.m. deadline on Monday.

Just told my liberal family via facebook to basically go to h#ll.
____________
I did that in November. I’m sorry but I’m not a pretender and anyone that voted for the destruction of my country is not family or friend.

I am more worried that we are headed to slavery by debt than I am that we are going to be buying Fiats.

Granted, the issues are important, but I think keeping sights on the huge debt being run up is most important. And for that there is an impending fix in 2010.

Slavery by debt as pay back to whitey is what I think the real goal is here.

If that happens, then America is no more...

The United States of America already 'is no more'. Game over.

If you check out the blogisphere today, you’ll find that Fiat - I forget whether it’s the company itself, several officials, or both - is under a “deferred prosecution” agreement with the U.S. government because it was involved in the “oil for food” scandal going back to the 90’s. Also many Chrysler officials didn’t want to deal with Fiat, because they regarded it as a shady company which refused to open its books.

But the Obama administration forced this marriage, with Fiat contributing zero cash to the deal.

>>Little market impact because of this.

I suspect that corporate bonds will be affected.. interest rates will skyrocket for certain kinds of debt.

Will you ever go into a showroom that sells either Fiat or GM cars again?

Problem solved.

My brother-in-law, the priest drove by the other day. He had talked my mother in law into switching her vote.
I cursed him under my breath. I guess I may end up in hell for doing so, but I’m quite sure I’ll meet him there.

“I am more worried that we are headed to slavery by debt than I am that we are going to be buying Fiats.”

This ruling just kicked us towards the “slavery” you are worried about. This wasn't just about Fiat. This was about entities willing to risk their monies in US companies knowing what the “financial rules” are. This minimizes risk their risk. The action by the SCOTUS further blurred the risks. This means all investment will go elsewhere NOT HERE in the US.

Who woulda thunk it that it would become our patriotic duty to support Toyota? But it is a fine company, which employs many Americans. Ford isn’t so bad either.

Well the ruling was about the stay not the merits of what you spoke. The court said as much.

I agree this could change the merits of USA investing though.

I missed the lead up to the USSC appeal.
Was it based on bondholders having contractual liens against Chrysler and the sale not honoring those liens?

I think this type of fascist action is supposed to make the citizenry say:

“Don’t trust the markets. Don’t trust bonds.
BUY US T-BILLS. Invest in the US FEDERAL government!!”

Toyota, Honda, BMW all USA built by American workers, nonunion at that.

Ford is vulnerable, they escaped only because they borrowed money before the crash.

At this juncture, the most patriotic thing you can do is to not buy a car at all. Keep your money and use it to buy something that will be useful in the coming years. It's going to be a long, cold, bloody decade.

The SCOTUS can do what it pleases. It chose to do nothing. It chose NOT to check the Executive Branch. It failed to stop the fascism.

The markets are run by limousine liberals who agree with Obama socialism. Please remember that those people use other people money so win or lose your money, markets up or down it is a certainty that they will make money.
