If Rangel and leading Dems insist on preventing Kid Cuomo from challenging Patterson then the GOPers have a chance to take back the statehouse with the right candidate. (not Rudy. The Kerik thing will kill him)

Patterson is actually a centrist Dem, but his total lack of competence sets him up to fail. As Blue as NY is a known lefty cannot win the statehouse. Long Island execs Suozzi and Levy would be formidable candidates but if they are attacked as racists theywill stay out. My fear is the GOP turning to Bloomberg, but if they can get John Faso and his message heard they could have a good shot. If Christie can take NJ and Rall perform well in Conn. 2010 could be a time of recovery in the NE.

Will they be conservative in the manner of Palin and Sanford? No. But right now conservatives should be remembering Churchill's line about supporting Stalin. "If the Devil came out and opposed Hitler I should make a favorable comment of him in Commons."

This has just gotta be why the Dow Jones Industrial average went up today, while the rest of the planet was down!

NO no satire. In fact these two guys are quite popular in their districts and according to what I’ve heard their constituents kind of knew that this might happen.

Reading about these statehouse guys made me think immediately of good ole Arlen Spectre whose Benedict Arnold may have been a little premature, eh what, Arlen?

Obama is gonna take the Dims with him right down to the lowest circle in Dante's inferno. You're toast, soon-to-be Senator Spectator.

With this event and the defeat of Prop 1a here in CA. I’m tempted to borrow another phrase from Churchill - “This is not the End, it isn’t even the Beginning of the End. But, it might be the End of the Beginning.”

WCBS — NY Senate Republicans voted to replace Malcolm Smith as Majority Leader after two Democrats switched sides, giving GOP control.

Malcolm got himself in deep doo-doo---BEFORE he was majority leader. He gave a speech to a lobbying group demanding they cough up money to the party now.... b/c it was gonna cost A LOT MORE to get access when Democrats took over.

Even hardened lobbyists were astounded at his approach.

Whoo hoo! (This was probably over Gov. Patterson (and his Democrats’ support for “gay marriage”..right!)?

This is only good if they’re going to be conservatives. I’m sick of RINOs.

On the other hand, most NY Republicans are not Conservative.

It is sort of a lose, lose situation.

It's good news, because it's part of a social-conservative revolt. A critical part of the Dems' problem was that their obsession with pushing homosexual "marriage" was infuriating the Puerto Ricans in the Bronx. The main anti-homo-marriage Dem, Diaz, didn't actually defect, but two others did.

"May the rebellion grow and envelop the Feds."

FYI here's an excerpt from a speech given by NYC mayor Fernando Wood in 1861.

Then it may be said, why should not New York city, instead of supporting by her contributions in revenue two—thirds of the expenses of the United States, become also equally independent? As a free city, with but nominal duty on imports, her local Government could be supported without taxation upon her people. Thus we could live free from taxes, and have cheap goods nearly duty free. In this she would have the whole and united support of the Southern States, as well as all the other States to whose interests and rights under the Constitution she has always been true.
