California: Nightmares come true for the neediest

Sacramento -- There is more pain ahead for elderly, disabled and poor Californians.

Schwarzenegger has proposed reducing caregiver pay under the In Home Support Services program -- used by 446,000 Californians with disabilities -- from a maximum of $10.10 per hour (including benefits) to $8.60. That will make it tougher to find help.

"I expect suicides, premature deaths, a horrible disruption of the social fabric. . . . We're headed toward market-based social Darwinism where only the fittest will survive."

I see that the age-old “Firemen First” extortion is alive and well.

It's either that or government slavery. I'll choose market based social Darwinism for 100, Alex.

The $5 billion IHSS program is the fastest growing in the state! It is riddled with fraud, waste, and abuse! Workers must join the SEIU!!! SEIU rakes in millions from these workers, and doles out campaign cash do Democratic lawmakers who protect the program for oversight. sad.

How many state employee union members who push paper in government could be cut before they cut pay to the caregivers?

So all they are talking about is cutting the wages of these in home workers?

How many states do not have programs like this?? Somehow, people manage, don’t they.

Do away with the program entirely. People need to start taking care of themselves or save for that possibility.

Sounds to me like it will fit right in with Obama’s healthcare rationing plan.

The neediest are the Soylent Green.

California should have thought about economic impact of all the welfare and programs for citizens and non citizens.

Face it, when everyone is on welfare, and the people who work have to fund it, they take their money and go elsewhere.

What does anyone expect?

Let the poor & elderly petition the churches.

That’s the proper entity to handle this anyway.

Churches can be a little more choosey about continuing to give to those who can work but won’t.

Several problems solved with this approach.

"One can bet the Socialists will control the border with dogs, automatic weapons and mines."

But the socialist Democrats' reason for controlling the borders will be to keep the populace from fleeing the USA. Not to keep the Third World from crashing in. The socialist Democrats plan on turning America into a 21st century slave state.

.......Arabs have ice flows?.....

That would be Arab immigrants to Canada and the Northwest Territories with a few in the Hudson Region.

Yes. And folks can choose anyone they want to provide the in-home care. Many "hire" relatives to complete the scam.

Those “care givers” that Schwarzenegger is referring to are members of the SEIU, the ACORN union that was formed to organize the illegals. These union contracts are the same ones that caused Obama to threaten to withdraw stimulus money if they were not upheld. Schwarzenegger has been threatening to make these cuts for a long time. The article claims that the pay is ten something including benefits, but I’m pretty sure that it is ten something plus benefits.

The fact is that an illegal in California would not work for $10.00 an hour without bennies. An illegal nanny in Irvine makes $18-$20 per hour.

Okay, thanks. Now I realize which program this is. I know a gay ‘couple’. One guy has aids and gets all kinds of SS and everything that goes with it. The ‘partner’ gets paid to ‘care’ for him.

What a bunch of crappola.

The problem here is that the poor and helpless are being oppressed on behalf of more deserving people ~ e.g. illegal alien college kids who have a need for instate tuition, and so on.

California's government has established priorities for its concern and the people are going to have to live with them.

Why does California favor illegal aliens over helpless Americans who do need a bit of social help?

Feeding the truly poor is a role that local govt can perform...if it weren’t so bogged down in spending on other nonsense.

In colonial times, taxes were about 5%, and the hungry were fed. Our tax dollars go to such un-Constitutional nonsense now that we can’t perform that function at the local level.

this sounds like National Health Care which obama is shoving down our throats. Between abortion and the elderly, only the young and middle age will be treated with all available health care....

and did you know that there are more MRI’s in one city in PA than in all of Canada? And Canada is touted as our “example”? What’s wrong with this administration!!

California, IMO, almost deserves what it gets.... money for the homos.. money for the gentried Hollywood set...... and no money for the elderly? Sounds like their priorities are very well known and accepted in that state.... and no, I don’t believe that what happens in CA is what the other states can expect...... except for the Central Northern states which see themselves as far, far, far left-..... you can’t have it both ways... you either care about all of your people (not just the loud, monied lobbys and interest groups), or those people who are sensible and can move, will move away, leaving the insane to run the nuthouse....

Local gov’t would have the same “know your clients” advantage as the local churches would.

“You’re a deadbeat, you can work, but you show up here every week with your hand out. Get a job, loser.”
