Former first lady Laura Bush said while her husband, George W. Bush, does not think its appropriate for a former president to criticize his successor, she understands why former Vice President Dick Cheney has.
Thats his right as a citizen of the U.S., and I think he also feels obligated and so I understand why he wants to speak out, Bush said in an interview with ABCs Good Morning America. On the other hand George feels like as a former president that he owes President Obama his silence on issues and that theres no reason to second guess any decisions he makes.
The former first lady also approves of Obamas Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, saying she sounds like a very interesting and good nominee.
As a woman Im proud that there might be another woman on the court, Bush said. So well see what happens, but I wish her well.
Asked about the infighting within the Republican Party, Bush said while she and former President Bush talk about it a lot, its probably not that bad.
I think its just a very typical political cycle, she said of the GOPs shrinking status. Its like creative tension within a party for people to talk about what it is they how they want to be represented

"The President was doing his job. Whether or not he said enough in his own defense is a matter of opinion, and not part of the President's Constitutional 'job description.'"
Horse hockeys. W was a miserable failure at protecting us from evil 30,000 US citizens have been killed, raped, robbed or assaulted by ILLEGAL invaders on his watch and he didn't do jack about it. THAT WAS HIS DUTY AND JOB DESCRIPTION.
ad hominem - Appealing to personal considerations rather than to logic or reason
Actually arguing with OWF is like dealing with 4 year olds on the play ground. I actually thought the Viking Kitties had dispatched OWF about a year ago
This is personal, baseless, and entirely false. ALL of it.
No, just more made up stuff in your little pink world.
As is know by many around here having an adult conversation with you is a complete waste of time. I was just trying to save the member I posted too some time for other more fruitful activities.
My heart is not troubled because I am sure the Viking Kitties are in your near future. Crazy people do not last long around here anymore. Why don't you go back to WA and run your "George Bush walks on water and c$aps Ice Cream threads"?
Nothing in my world is "made up," nor "pink." In fact, I HATE pink.
Again, the "Viking Kitty" thing is entirely false.
Once again, ad hominem attack in your use of the word "crazy," and making up garbage about President Bush and the threads I participated in.
But again, I understand your rules. You can lie. You can make up all sorts of ugly things, call me vile names, and it's just fine because I deserve it.
You may say that my admiring the President and telling the truth makes me a loser, but I would counter that your inability to tell the truth and your childish insistence on making fallacious and repetitive arguments lacking any form of veracity, indicates that the real loser is you.
Now, any more questions as you hijack this thread for your own less than honorable purposes?
The Republicans in Congress had spent beyond what even the President wanted, and not being one to throw the baby out with the bath water, and not having a line item veto, he didn't want to turn down the full budgets, so they went on through.
Like the expensive talking parrot that got roasted ..."He shoulda said something...." The average voter only knows what's shown on the nightly news, or what they read in the newspapers. If all they get it negativity toward all Republicans, they begin to think that maybe the Republicans don't have the answers, so they'll try the Democrat this time.
This the US of A. If you want to get the message to someone, there is a way. It's expensive. It's called advertising. You buy it. You can say anything you want. You send people e-mails. It doesn't matter what the MSM says, although it's important, you have to work around them. There's a reason they call the Democrats "The Evil Party," and the Republicans "The Stupid Party."
The Republicans don't have to stay stupid. But with stupid competition, the Democrats have no reason not to remain evil. It pays off big.
You’re being completely emotional.
I didn’t attack you even once. What I did was to point out the emotional content of your post, and call attention to the lack of factual information.
You break into my comment to Deb, and state “The purpose of the office is to protect and defend America, and President Bush accomplished that purpose.”
I agree, that is one purpose.
You state “The purpose of the office is not to ‘air’ anything.”
I disagree; he had a duty to inform the American public on all issues (excepting those that must remain secret, that our enemies didn’t know) and to prevent the American public from being disastrously, and abysmally misinformed. He chose to ignore that solemn duty completely. You offered not even the slightest reason for believing that he had no such duty, and no such reason exists. Your defense here is 100% emotion.
I offer: “Either you dont understand, or you are attempting to deflect the wrong issue.”
Your reply: “The President was doing his job. Whether or not he said enough in his own defense is a matter of opinion, and not part of the President’s Constitutional ‘job description.’ “
Can an intelligent person really believe that our president has fulfilled his obligations by doing only what is literally required of him in the constitution? Is that the purpose of the constitution?
You then assert that he told us all we had to know “over and over” which is simply not true. Even when doing lip service to the “War on Terror,” he never elaborated on the many threats that had been discovered, nor the fact that those threats had been delt with. He even insulted us with the utterly false assertion that the islamic terrorists worshipped the same God that we do. Why would a man that claimed to be a born again Christian utter such blasphemy?
You accused me of ignoring the facts of the election, but offer no substance in justification thereof.
You want to defend President Bush; most of us are passed that feckless excercise. What is the point? We need to repair the damage and presidential apologetics won’t accomplish that. I supported him through eight years and two elections. I had “I Stand With President George W Bush” on all my vehicles, personal, and commercial, along with the Bush-Cheny sticker, and later added the W ‘04, and after the election added “W, Still the President.” I wore the hats, and the T-shirts, and all that crap, but there comes a point where you have to be honest with yourself.
He really did shirk some important duties, and to pretend that he didn’t is immature, and guaranteed to put off the people that are going to be in the trenches with us.
I don’t want to believe anything about you. I’ve never even disagreed with you before. But I don’t intend to be treated like an idiot for stating the obvious.
As for the rest of the strawmen that closed out your last reply, how about admitting to yourself that they are emotional rubber crutches, and that to point out that fact is not an attack?
I hope you're in prayer here, mad, because you are on dangerous ground as your emotions spiral more and more out of control.
Please get a grip. For your own sake. Please.
Calling me names and accusing me of crying is not an "attack" to you. I deserve it because you imagined me as being emotional (even though I have been through this entire thing, as calm as the day is long).
So, in your mind, you can respond to my legitimate questions and legitimate, sincerely thought out post with comments about "adolescence" and "crying" and "nonsense" when it has no basis in reality, and you don't see anything wrong with it.
That is my entire final point. You don't see anything wrong with what you've said to me, and its personal nature.
So there is no more that needs to be said. You perceive yourself as guiltless because you perceive yourself as right and your authority absolute, and me as a child because I don't agree with you.
But it's OK. I don't care what you think. I really don't. Everyone whose opinion I respect disagrees with you. You ended any concern I had with what you were saying when you said my reasoned words were a "nonsensical rant" and called me an adolescent.
I'm sure I'm not the first person you have 'put in their place' with your words, and I'm sure I won't be the last.
But for me, it's over. No more sarcasm from my keyboard. You sincerely think you're better and smarter than I am, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you're wrong. End of discussion.
Have a lovely evening.
?
And peace be with you. You won. :)
I also pity and pray for those who followed so lemming-like in praising him, as if he were a deity, in the old daily GWB Prayerfest when, IMHO, they should have been praying instead for 1. the United States of America 2. our troops that defend us, and 3. finally for Providence to grant him leadership and guidance!
I have had the privilege to become acquainted with most of the people who led the Pray for Pres.Bush very well! Not just on FR! They are Salt of the Earth Christians! They are not lemmings! The finest Christian People you could ever hope to meet! They have enriched my life with their kindness, love and friendship.
I find it hard to believe that you pray for someone that you put in the same category as Hitler and Jane Fonda as you have displayed on your homepage. Our President,GWB, did what he thought was best at the time! My Dad, a WWII, vet taught me something, Think twice before speaking once and never judge a man until all the facts are in! There are things about President Bush that we will find out when his book is finished but even them I still think some people have made hating him a habit that they never plan to break! All those guide lines for prayer? Well, we follow them everyday when we pray for our country, our troops, and for an American Hero that needs to be lifted up to the Lord for prayer! I invite you! I agree with about The American Terrier! My Mom has one.
I was honored to be a part of the prayer ministry here for six years and to carry it on elsewhere during the past two years.
As you have stated, the company I have kept consists of the "finest Christian people you could ever hope to meet."
And some day we WILL all meet! Praise God!
The President is not a dictator; he can't 'fix' everything that's wrong.
As far as President Bush keeping Americans 'informed', he couldn't demand time on the MSM to put his viewpoints out there, and they certainly wouldn't have offered him time, like they're doing for That One, because they were against him from the beginning. The Republican Party could have bought advertising for him, but, weenies that they are, they were spooked by the anti-Bush sentiment in the MSM, and started turning against him, when it started looking tough in Iraq.
But, as has been shown by That One, the perpetual campaign is tiresome, and even supporters don't want to listen to it 24/7.
Time for my last cup of green tea! Please forgive my mistakes!
Nailed this one on the head, SuziQ!
They acted like Jr. High kids who didn't want to associate with the "unpopular" guy. I've never seen such a pathetic display of personal cowardice than from the elected Republicans. What a different world it might be if they had shown even a modicum of courage!
OH, please, lord McCain would not have even had the showing he had at the polls had he NOT chose Sarah. Lord McCain showed his double minded ways all through his political career.... Come on now what kind of mind calls up JFKerry to get himself on that ticket.
AND as lord Senator McCain the only charge he ever successfully lead was that GANG of 14... And that yuck yuck attack against our military anti torture legislation. Yeah boy, some leadership skills demonstrated there. And his REAL identity is being verbalized through his 'i am' daughter who just wants to get along with everybody but Conservatives.
i find your post disgusting. Sniveling doesn’t become you
As a woman Im proud that there might be another woman on the court, ....
&&&
I admire Laura Bush for many things, but that statement is just plain stupid.
I do appreciate his swift response to the attacks on 911. But his followup was a PR failure of epic proportion and largely why we have an imbecile like Obama as our current President.
&&
Amen! Amen!
Concur...couldn't have said it better!
Hey, look everyone. They think I belong at Democrat Underground.
Hate to burst your bubble toadjerk, not the first time I heard it. Every neanderthal Bushbot says it to me. Bushbots, please get a better response.
Well, dude, I’m not going anywhere. There are plenty of Bushbot fanboy, buttboy blogs out there. Maybe YOU would feel more comfortable at one of them. Not that I’m suggesting you be kicked out. I hope you were not suggesting that to me.
Cheers!
You've gotta be joking, Jack. No one had ever heard of Palin before McCain elevated her to stardom!

And very well the so-called Gang of 14 might well serve us when Sonia Sotomayor comes to the dock!
