Could California become the first state in the nation to do away with welfare?
That doomsday scenario is on the table as lawmakers wrestle with a staggering $24.3 billion budget deficit.
County welfare directors are "in shock" at the very idea of getting rid of CalWORKs, which has been widely viewed as one of the most successful social programs in the state's history, said Bruce Wagstaff, director of the Department of Human Assistance in Sacramento.

Many of them are already here. I run into them at every turn (which is why I’m going to post a Vanity in the next week or so about FReepers directing me to Texas). They are in the grocery store, the drug store, living behind me as renters (sundays are a riot around here) They are behind me in the stores, using their state provided debit cards. (Now you know why we aren’t crying over Huntsman going to China! He’s RINO squared!)
Here in S. Utah, we are getting the worst of it. We are getting the escaping CA homeowners and taxpayers (who are bringing their addled liberal brains with them), we are getting the AZ amigos who are no longer allowed to work there, and we’re getting the refugees of all stripes from Vegas, who cannot earn two Kennedy half dollars...even in a single day.
I love the geography, but I’m getting out as soon as is reasonable.

Actually, this would be a brilliant move, they welfare folks would all move to neighboring states and california would be freed of about half it’s population, and then those states would become overwhelmed so they cancel welfare too and so on and so on ...

When I go to my state of IL website it's a maze of 'FREE' gubmint programs available to everyone except for *regular people* who really need some temporary assistance.It really does seem that all these programs are for the generational layabout gubmint leeches, illegals and criminals. So it's no wonder almost every state is broke and FUBAR.And my County Website is the same -- a program for this, a program for that, but NO PROGRAMS for *regular people* who need some temporary help.
