Aragon was convicted of receiving $650,000 in a scheme to defraud NM out of $4.2 million during construction of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Courthouse. At one time the former state Senate president was one of the most influential (and corrupt) politicians in the state. If you were a state legislator you didn't cross Manny or did so at your own peril. He pleaded guilty last October to three felony counts of conspiracy and mail fraud.

Among those attending the party: former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Gene Franchini and former Albuquerque state Sen. Les Houston.

Attorney Rogers said he's worried that there's apparently "a level of acceptance for this stuff" among some New Mexico civic and political leaders. I want to know what rock he's been under? NM politics has always operated that way and current Governor Bill Richardson is now the current example and is part of federal probe of pay-to-play allegations involving his administration.

. . . "I can't believe there are people who are so stupid, brazen or whatever ... who would go to a party for a person who epitomizes corruption."

These days it's called the "Democrat Party."

New Mexico politics at it's best./s

Manny will still get his pension for ruining New Mexico Highlands, even as a convicted felon. Thanks to Bill, Manny is set for life after he gets out.

Manny's plea bargain doesn't have him pleading guilty to taking the money, whereabouts unknown, but that he 'talked' about it.

Attorney Rogers said he’s worried that there’s apparently “a level of acceptance for this stuff” among some New Mexico civic and political leaders. I want to know what rock he’s been under? He evidently doesn’t get out much or read the papers too much. As an attorney you’d think he would have been more aware of what goes on in this state! I too thought the party was tacky and if it had to be held should have been very quiet and low key with no publicity.
