Walter Reed - Week 215, May 29, 2009, Busy Friday

Getting Ready for the Summer

A great night to be at the Front Gate. Good camaraderie and good weather. Much of the evening was spent talking with some wounded warriors and visitors who joined us. And, as is the norm, many passengers in cars waved and drivers honked showing their support of the troops.

Two wounded warriors, Tommy and Jason stopped and we chatted for quite a while. Both had been in Iraq, Jason –three tours. Tommy’s family will be joining him at WR soon. Thanks largely to the Yellow Ribbon Foundation providing funds for travel and hotel.

Both the small and big bus returned, carrying the wounded warriors from Friday night dinner hosted by one of a number of restaurants in the DC area. It is our custom to stay at the front gate until these buses return, so we can show our support to them and their families

We are always looking for troop supporters to stop by and visit. Parking is free right across from Walter Reed’s front gate.

If you can't get to D.C. to join us but would like to do something for the wounded, you can find a wealth of ideas by FReepmailing Tom the Redhunter, Cindy-True-Supporter, VAFlagwaver, or PleaDeal.

A Big Thank You to all FReepers who transport and store our many signs and banners every week.

Come join us every Friday night between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm. * Thank you to BufordP for maintaining the BIG LIST of all Walter Reed FReeps * Tom the Redhunter blogs at The Redhunter

Thank you for the AAR. I look for them every week. I’m still jealous that you all get to do what you are doing and I have to sit at home. God bless you all.

Ping back at you.

Thanks for the great report.

Yep, with warmer weather the wounded warriors are out walking around more, and we enjoy talking with them as much as they enjoy talking to us.

It was a lot of fun. I won’t be out tonight. I am on the last days of a cold and don’t want it to re-occur.

Also, Pandji, his name is “Pankaj”, pronounced “Punk-edge”. I am not sure what it is about Hindus, but they are touchy about their names.
