Obama calls for new beginning between US, Muslims

CAIRO – Quoting from the Quran for emphasis, President Barack Obama called for a "new beginning between the United States and Muslims" Thursday and said together, they could confront violent extremism across the globe and advance the timeless search for peace in the Middle East.

"This cycle of suspicion and discord must end," Obama said in a widely anticipated speech in one of the world's largest Muslim countries, an address designed to reframe relations after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

The White House said Obama's speech contained no new policy proposals on the Middle East. He said American ties with Israel are unbreakable, yet issued a firm, evenhanded call to the Jewish state and Palestinians alike to live up to their international obligations.

In a gesture to the Islamic world, Obama conceded at the beginning of his remarks that tension "has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations."

"And I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear," said the president, who recalled hearing prayer calls of "azaan" at dawn and dusk while living in Indonesia as a boy.

At the same time, he said the same principle must apply in reverse. "Just as Muslims do not fit a crude stereotype, America is not the crude stereotype of a self-interested empire."

Obama's remarks were televised on all radio and television stations in Israel, and with Arabic voice-over translations by Arab satellite stations Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera, Egyptian TV and Al-Manar, an outlet for the militant group Hezbollah.

I’m willing.... when the Muslims turn over bin Laden, al Swahiri, and all those other scum, when Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinians etc turn over all their weaponry, when they publicly state that they will not slaughter every Israeli, that Israel has a right to exist, and begin to live like civilized human beings for more than 2 years, then I’ll give ‘em a chance.<p
Till then, all I learned about Islam was taught on 9/11/01.

Lovers of freedom and freedom-hating Muslims finally have something in common.

Both are frustrated to no end by the masses being seduced by Obama's tongue like cobras by a snake charmer.

One thing Obama is accomplishing: He's making the possibility that he may yet evolve into the biblical anti-Christ seem far less ridiculous than when some first made that claim.

I'd be a lot less suspicious of Muslims if there weren't so many of them vowing to kill me.

These attacks by Islamic terrorists have not only been directed at the US. They have been carried out all over the globe for decades, including in Bali, the UK. Spain, Tunisa, etc. The idea that this is between the US and Islam is just ridiculous.

If lions and zebras can do it then why can't humans just get along together - like Rodney King and Obama want us to. We can start by promising ourselves that the very first time we run into a Jihadist we will give them a great big hug, just like the Zebra and the Lion.

Ya it worked so well for Carter and Clinton. These tribes have been fighting for 3,000 years and he thinks a speech will bring peace to the region? The only thing they understand is what Regan did to Kadafi.

Can someone give me an example of American Colonialism where we oppressed Muslims?

Did he tell the mullahs he cried during the movie Titanic, and will that be enough, finally enough to get the whole world to finally accept peace? What a ponce America elected.

Okay, I had a nightmare last night.

Is it just possible that someone is smarter and sneakier than we realize? Is some evil genius of Realpolitik trying to align the US with the Muslims against the Chinese, just as we once did using the Chinese against the USSR?

Neah. Didn’t think so. Gotta cut down on the Mountain Dew.

I will welcome a new beginning with Islam as soon as the two original world trade center buildings are restored and the 2900 people are back with us. Short of that, they can offer me nothing of interest.

Neville Chamberlan Jr. not withstanding.

No. I didn’t get sick to my stomach listening to Jimmy the way I do with Obama. Literally.

That means that he surrendered the United States to them. One comes to muslims only on their terms.

But there is nothing new to be learned from the speech.

*********

Why is this his responsibility and what if those negative stereotypes of Islam are true? I didn’t realize zer0 was now also acting head of CAIR although it’s become increasingly apparent over the past month.

AS Gadaffi stated, our African Kenyan brother who is also a naturalized American. Sums it up pretty well.
