The driver who witnessed a schizophrenic behead a fellow Greyhound bus passenger last summer has been gripped with panic attacks, while those who mourn the victim say they can’t sleep and have developed a deep sense that justice hasn’t been done, a review board heard Monday.

Li stabbed McLean dozens of times and then scattered his body parts around the bus.

Locked up for life (at the very least) ...absolutely the common sense answer.

As a rule, those who behead strangers should be treated as unsound.

Yes, murder not only kills the victim but does extraordinary damage to untold numbers of innocent people.

Which is why this joker should be hanged.

"Li has been taking his medication and hasn’t had a psychotic episode in three months"

Well, that's certainly progress, then.

I can't believe they would actually consider letting this guy out. Why not Charles Manson? Certainly (if they weren't already dead) Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Albert DiSalvo, even Timothy McVeigh?

I'm sure that their psychotic episodes could have been alleviated by medication as well.

I've always thought that when someone is criminally insane, it is a reason to keep them locked up forever, not a reason to let them out. Silly me.

Justice belongs to the people, it is a foundational human right. We delegate that responsibility to professionals who theoretically will be unbiased toward any of the people involved in the interest of fairness. But if people lose faith that justice is being served, at some point they will deal justice directly. Justice is not the private playgroud of the hired professionals, it is a trust. Either they live up to it, either they fulfill that trust or the trust is broken and people learn to handle it themselves.

Thats not good for anyone, but if the police and courts lose the people’s trust it is inevitable.

When does the “No Sh*t Sherlock” clause in the Manitoba Criminal Code Review come in to play?

while those who mourn the victim say they can’t sleep and have developed a deep sense that justice hasn’t been done

Simple solution--release him into the custody of the victim's family. When they're done their sleep problems should be resolved.

A Coward Dies A Thousand Deaths, But A Brave Man Dies Only One.

Any able bodied person on that buss that didn’t jump to that poor victims defense, should have nightmares, 24/7, for the rest of their miserable lives.

Crazy people and cowards have got us surrounded... we call them libs.

He’s really a good guy at heart. You need to be more understanding and concerned with his wants and needs. You do know that others do have wants and needs that don’t necessarily agree with your vision of what is right and wrong - so - just be more tolerant.

can you smell the BS from where you stand?

“Man who beheaded passenger should be kept locked up...

Yea - this is very big deal for Canada, as they are a VERY progressive nation. They are beyond revenge and don’t believe that the state should take action against others, for any reason (you know, like the Dems).

Therefore...what do they do?

This is indeed a complex legal case, so let's apply the "Wise Latina Woman" standard to help resolve its difficulties.

First, we gather the critical evidence:

Vince Li looks Asian.

Tim McLean looks Caucasian.

Then we ignore written law and utilize our empathy to reach a socially just verdict:

Release the prisoner and bill McLean's estate for court costs.

See how easy that was?
