"Two martinis, a swank restaurant, a Broadway show -- President Obama really knows how to treat a First Lady."
"I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished," the president said yesterday after touching down at JFK for an intimate night on the town.
The first couple left their girls, Sasha and Malia, behind at the White House yesterday afternoon, taking two helicopters and a small Air Force jet to make their way to Manhattan.
The Obamas were dressed to the nines -- Michelle in a sleeveless, black cocktail dress adorned with fringe, a pair of low, strappy heels and a turquoise clutch; and the president in a dark suit and white shirt, no tie.
The first stop was a meal at low-key, but elegant, Greenwich Village restaurant Blue Hill, which boasts farm fresh, locally grown dishes.

Pro Obama quotes:
"President Obama really knows how to treat a First Lady"
"The Obamas were dressed to the nines"
"intimate night on the town."
"They were laughing and talking and seemed like they had a genuinely good time."
"Michelle re laxing with a cou ple of martinis."
"diners,....erupted into a round of applause.
"It's like in Shakespearean times, when the king would come to the show."
"the first couple got the biggest standing ovation of the night as theatergoers applauded and took photos of the dashing duo"
"The president gallantly guided his wife to their orchestra seats"
"I couldn't think for the first 10 minutes of the show because the president was sitting right to me," said seatmate Lloyd Lederkramer."
Con:
Taxpayers footed the bill for the big night on the town, which included a total of at least $24,000 for the three aircraft used to ferry the Obamas, aides and reporters to New York and back. Dinner costs and orchestra seat tickets -- at $96.50 apiece -- were paid by the Obamas.
Obama's jet, a Gulfstream 500, served as a more modest Air Force One for the day in place of the customary presidential Boeing 747.
The White House declined to say how much the trip was costing taxpayers.
(These were the last three paragraphs of the story. As with the Atlanta Journal Constitution which put the story on A-13 below the fold, you can bet we have heard the last of this in the main stream media.)
I would really like to take my First Lady to NYC for an evening on the town. Where can I reserve the same “modest Jet” the Obamas used free of charge....to themselves? (I can pass on the two helicopters for now)
“I am taking my wife to New York City because it’s free.
Obama takes a private jet to a private outing, spending a million bucks, and the press shouts "That's what I'm talking about! Way to go!"
“Obama’s jet, a Gulfstream 500,...”
Oh really? I thought it was the poor, broke, taxpayers’ jet.
He just thinks it belongs to him.
And this is the crowd that berated CEO’s for flying on private jets that their companies own. Disgusting.
Meanwhile...North Korea launches more missiles and the economy continues to slide...
Twenty four thousand dollars of the taxpayer's money, but "free" to the usurper.
I hope those at GM in the "Blue" states that voted for this guy and who will soon be out of work are well aware of his shenanigans.

Obama said the executives at those companies who have taken federal loans should act responsibly with the tax payers’ money, chiding Wall Street executives who sought multimillion dollar bonuses and the leaders of Detroit’s Big Three automakers who last week flew to Washington aboard private jets to ask Congress for a bailout.
He called the automaker executives “tone deaf” to the concerns of the American people.
Weeks away from his inauguration, Obama stressed to Walters the importance of personal, corporate and civic accountability in light of the cratering economy and said his presidency would be a return to “the ethic of responsibility.”
Obama said “captains of industry” on Wall Street and in Detroit who took advantage of corporate perks while their companies benefited from government loans paid for with taxpayers’ money, don’t have “any perspective on what’s happening to ordinary Americans.”
Remember when people used to admire saints and their lives of self-sacrifice?
“I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished,”
He should have taken her after the election but before the inauguration. I’m sure he could have found some time in there. But then it might not have been on the taxpayers...
What else did he promise?..........oh ya, ..........hope and change.
or taken her there instead of Chicago over valentines day weekend-it’s not like he was hunkered down in the oval office doing something important, like I don’t know, reading the “stimulus” bill that he signed the following Monday.
Do I remember hearing of a Valentine dinner/date they flew back to a Chicago restaurant to have.....Wonder how much that one cost the tax payers?
“I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished,”
We are to believe this crap? “Oh, Barack, I am so stressed with this campaign stuff. To hell with this first lady thing and the luxury of the White House, all I have ever wanted was to see a Broadway show. You must promise to take me when this over.”
Thanks for the reminder !
I know many think this isn't an issue for Republicans to focus on, but I think it displays such blatant arrogance, it's breath taking.
Obama has broken a lot of his promises, but he knows better than to mess with Aunt Esther.
I believe that was the weekend where the stimulus plan had just passed. The plan that was so urgent a Democrat had to be flown in Friday night from his mother's funeral to vote on it. Imagine how that guy felt watching Obama fly off to have a "date night" as we all waited breathlessly for him to sign it. What a POS!
I wonder why.
I mean, why would he go into JFK with a small jet, when he could have gone into La Guardia much closer to Manhattan; or into Teterboro, even closer, and with no disruption to commercial traffic.

What else did he promise Michelle?
He promised to give up smoking. Of course, he hasn’t. That’s why he has to run out of the White House so frequently. The inside of his limo and Air Force One must smell like an ashtray.
BO left out his tie and looked like a clone of Sammy Davis Jr. doing his impression of Bojangles...
