Who could have said these things? Are these the words of a Libertarian, an American philosopher, a Patriot, or perhaps an Objectivist follower of Rand? Here are the words:
It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple. First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and ... preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been record-setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America, at best, will resemble the Wiemar Republic, and at worst, Zimbabwe. These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses, and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These men, of course, are not an elected, but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress. Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters. Then came Barack Obama's command that GM's president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions. So it should be no surprise that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Congressman Barney Frank, a social pervert and Marxist, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive. The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight. |
These are not the words of a libertarian, philosopher, or patriot; and certainly not the words of an Objectivist. Ayn Rands heir and Objectivist authority, Leonard Peikoff, wrote (October 19, 2006):
Socialisma fad of the last few centurieshas had its day; it has been almost universally rejected for decades. Leftists are no longer the passionate collectivists of the 30s, but usually avowed anti-ideologists, who bewail the futility of all systems. Religion, by contrastthe destroyer of man since time immemorialis not fading; on the contrary, it is now the only philosophic movement rapidly and righteously rising to take over the government. Given the choice between a rotten, enfeebled, despairing killer, and a rotten, ever stronger, and ambitious killer, it is immoral to vote for the latter, and equally immoral to refrain from voting at all because "both are bad." The survival of this country will not be determined by the degree to which the government, simply by inertia, imposes taxes, entitlements, controls, etc., although such impositions will be harmful (and all of them and worse will be embraced or pioneered by conservatives, as Bush has shown). What does determine the survival of this country is not political concretes, but fundamental philosophy. And in this area the only real threat to the country now, the only political evil comparable to or even greater than the threat once posed by Soviet Communism, is religion and the Party which is its home and sponsor. The most urgent political task now is to topple the Republicans from power, if possible in the House and the Senate. This entails voting consistently Democratic, even if the opponent is a "good" Republican. In my judgment, anyone who votes Republican or abstains from voting in this election has no understanding of the practical role of philosophy in man's actual lifewhich means that he does not understand the philosophy of Objectivism, except perhaps as a rationalistic system detached from the world. If you hate the Left so much that you feel more comfortable with the Right, you are unwittingly helping to push the U.S. toward disaster, i.e., theocracy, not in 50 years, but, frighteningly, much sooner.

The clear and accurate depiction of America's descent into totalitarian socialism are not even the words of an Americanthey are the words of a Russian Blogger, Stanislav Mishin, republished in Pravda. The words are all his, but the full article is published on The Autonomist next door.
When the heir of the writer of Atlas Shrugged cannot see what is happening in this country, and even helps to accelerate its descent into socialism, and when a Russian Newspaper reports the truth about what is happening to America, the truth every American MSM publication and news source is oblivious to, America is no longer The Land of the Free, but The Land of the Ignorant and the Enslaved.
The blogger has rewritten the article; here is the original:

It was T. S. Eliot.
He may have re-written the original but he kept the misspelling of “descent.”
Thanks, I googled it, but...
The Bush Democrats are a prime example of this head in the sand RINOism.
Is this the result he wanted? At least he didn't get a Christian theocracy under the Republicans. Just the probable collapse of America into a Weimer/Zimbabawe style inflation scenario and the revivification of Islamic terror in the U.S. and throughout the world -- not to mention a upcoming war between Israel and Iran in a year or two (I'm being optimistic about the time).
Perhaps this is what he had in mind:
descent
noun
1. the act, process, or fact of descending.
2. a downward inclination or slope.
Synonyms:
1. falling, sinking. 2. decline, grade, declivity. 4. ancestry, parentage. 6. assault, foray.

Well, I Googled it too and actually was only able to find a couple of other writers attributing it to him. Nothing cited at all. So, you could still be right :)
Of course, it was a typo. It’s just that the typo got spread all over cyberspace, illustrating how dangerous it is to take what you read on the web as true. One typo (not in this case) can completely alter the sense of a statement.
“The End of the Land of the Free”
STOP being so damn negative.
The blogger has rewritten the article; here is the original:
Not one word was “rewritten.” It is excerpted, but you’ll see both this version and the original at the link to the source.

The author of the origianl is Russian. There are other English errors. It was not the English, but the clear vision of what is going on in America that was the point.
How would you do rewriting it in Russian?
Hank
“STOP being so damn negative.”
See?!
In a free country people don’t tell other people what to do.
Suspect you have no idea what freedom is.

It is "past" time for the next Revolutionary War to begin. It is "past" time to water the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants. (IMHO)
Maybe it would be more correct to say say...."It is time too late for the next Revolutionary War to begin. It is time too late to water the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants."
Not a lecture. Just a thought.
Um, don’t know what your gripe is, but don’t take out your hostility on me. I don’t make the news, I just report it.
In fact, I first posted this same Pravda article on FR on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 9:35:05 PM.
I’m reminded of Patrick Henry’s speech: War is here already.
Good grief! That was hostile?
Sorry you got that impression. It was ot intended.
