Candlelight vigil to honor (Child Murderer) George Tiller set for tonight in Wichita
Wichita Eagle ^ | 5.31.09 | SUZANNE PEREZ TOBIAS

Posted on 05/31/2009 2:49:00 PM PDT by libh8er

A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for 8 p.m. today at Old Town Square to show support for George Tiller's family and to oppose violence.

Dustin Deckard, 20, organized the vigil and is hoping it will be "a quiet show of support for Dr. Tiller and a moment to remember his medical and political triumphs."

Deckard, who supports abortion rights, called today's shooting of Tiller "akin to the murder of Harvey Milk," an openly gay California politician who was shot to death in 1978.

"With the situation today, I think that what side people are on is the last thing we should be arguing about," Deckard said. "The death of people's loved one is more important today than any political alignment."

Deckard is spreading word of tonight's vigil through Twitter, a microblog service, and other social networking tools. Questions about the vigil should be directed to dustindeckard@gmail.com.

Old Town Square is at Second and Mead streets.

I have said to my children, when they were old enough to ask me why I really thought a political candidate was bad, that “some people don't believe that every child should be allowed to be born.”

It was a true statement about the person in question and my children understood that these people were wrong. I felt it was the gentlest way to help them understand this awful subject without getting into gruesome details.

My kids knew by aged 6 or so what abortion was

but with so many all but the last knew all about mommy’s belly issues having seen the consequence over and over

11 is a bit old to first knowing what it is

but hey, it’s your right...your kids...your decision as it should be

God bless you

Well, my son did not need to try to understand this at age 6. I wonder why your kids did.

Firstly, the 10 Commandments. Secondly, because it is out there all the time and it also teaches empathy.

It amazes me that while we are on the same side, you decided to slam me for not introducing the murder of children to my son when he was in 1st grade.

You are taking offense where there is none. Don't be so touchy especially thru a medium such as a message board or Internet posting.

There are more jellyfish in the Republicrat party than there are in the Atlantic Ocean.

They all make me want to puke.

Hello,

Yet another adult that thinks that a 6 year old has the ability to understand how a mother can allow her child to be ripped from her body and killed, simply because she wants him or her to go away.

OK.....

I’ll be going now.

We really are on the same side on the issue, however, when I need any of you to advise me on how to raise my kid, I will let you know.

Your scenario sounds way too conspiratorial for me.

But I strongly believe that this incident had a lot to do with the appointment of Sebelius to head the Department of Health and Human Services -- in a way that most folks may not have considered.

Based on my conversations in recent months with religious, pro-life conservatives, I'd say that NOTHING has done more to set back the pro-life cause -- and demoralize the pro-life movement -- than having an allegedly staunch pro-life Senator like Sam Brownback stand up and champion Sebelius' nomination in Washington.

This was a betrayal of the worst kind -- because the people I'm talking about have become completely jaded about the political side of the pro-life movement . . . and, quite frankly, no longer give a sh!t who governs this country in Congress, the White House, the court system, etc.

Americans don't read history.

They need to.

many live in an illusion that everything can be settled at the ballot box.

that only works when the culture stays intact...shared values is premier...ours is anything but intact right now

occurrences like Tiller getting shot are just where we are at now as everything implodes at a crazy rate around us...

there is nothing to stop the left right now

i sincerely worry that my children will endure violence on a scale proportionately like my great great grandparents did in the South 150 years ago.. the cultural struggle for power and the anti-traditional expungement the left is embarked on cannot be accomplished strictly by their numbers at some point folks will react violently...especially if the left uses events like this to crack down.

I'm convinced of this even though most under 45 are fairly brainwashed with political correctness...there are still some who understand what's being lost....that their ancestors built.

God Bless America.

And He certainly has. Remarkably.

However, I firmly believe that our country will not be right before God until we end the insane abomination of baby murder for the sake of convenience and/or sexual promiscuity.

Sounds a lot like the Oklahoma City bombing episode that saved Clintoon’s presidency,

Disagree. Bob Dole saved Clinton's bacon.

Fred Phelps will be there. I checked his website.

The left and the media will link that POS to us. I'll be thrilled when Phelps and his crew shuffle off this mortal coil.

They are as morally culpable as Tiller in his serial murders in the same way that all of us who called him a cold-blooded murderer before he was killed are morally culpable in his death.

You are a very confused person. They are celebrating the life of a serial murderer on the basis of the murders he committed. Those of us (myself included) who have called Tiller a murderer are stating an objective truth regarding his actions. Calling the man a murderer is not a defacto call for his murder.

Equating support of murder to the calling out of a murderer is the most far-fetched moral relativism I think I have ever heard.

Since when is infanticide "political"?

Seems to me like the most obvious existential/natural law/philosophical issue there is.

Politics doesn't enter into it.

Abortion is to politics as nuclear fusion is to average shoe size.

And, yes, those of us who call him a murder bear some responsibility for anyone who would take us seriously and attempt to stop the doctor’s murdering.

Oh, good! More ridiculous moral relativism.

He claims HE is not an abomination, but then look what he posts about a pair of conjoined twins:

"I feel terrible for laughing at this, let alone posting it on my blog, but… OMG. I honestly just laughed out loud so hard that I tipped my chair over and fell onto the floor. This is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen."
