"Let's play grown-up." When I was a child, that's what we said when we ran out of things to do like playing potsie or throwing rocks in the vacant lot. You'd go in and take your father's hat and your mother's purse and walk around saying, "Would you like tea?" In retrospect we weren't imitating our parents but parents on TV, who wore pearls and suits. But the point is we amused ourselves trying to be little adults.
And that's what the GOP should do right now: play grown-up.
The Democrats in the White House have been doing it since January, operating with a certain decorum, a kind of assumption as to their natural stature. Obamaland is very different from the last Democratic administration, Bill Clinton's. The cliché is true: White House staffs reflect their presidents. Mr. Clinton's staff was human, colorful, messy, slightly mad. They had pent-up energy after 12 years of Republican rule, and they believed their own propaganda that Republicans were wicked. They were oafish: One dragooned a government helicopter to go play golf. President Obama's staff is far less entertaining. They're smooth, impeccable, sophisticated, like the boss. They don't hate Republicans but think they're missing a few chips (empathy, logic, How Things Really Work). It is true they don't know what they don't know, but what they do know (how to quietly seize and hold power, for instancethey now run the American auto industry), they know pretty well.

Peggy, adults stand firm on principles.
Something she’s never done, most likely.
“You’d go in and take your mother’s purse and walk around saying, “Would you like tea?”
Sounds like a typical afternoon in the WH with Bambi and Joe....
kind of makes you wonder how effed up most folks who purport to be conservative writers truly are once unmasked...
What a joke, smmoth??
what is this woman talking about?? Thats is so much hogwash
It is amazing, Reagan’s wisdom never rubbed off on her.
Not this tiresome woman again. Not worth a read.

"You canNOT be serious!!"
Why does anyone pay attention to her. All she was was a speechwriter.
LOL! good one!
I can’t believe that this woman worked for Ronald Reagan.
She’s suckered into this guy’s “aura” just as much as Keith Olberman or Chrissy Matthews.
Disgusting...
That was exactly my thought. I can't stand her anymore.
You mean like this?:
"President Obama's staff is far less entertaining. They're smooth, impeccable, sophisticated, like the boss. They don't hate Republicans..."
You're right, of course. "Sucker" is the perfect word.
Wow. What a total misread of that bit of history. Bork was successfully vilified by the leftists in the press and set up a successful method of shooting down conservative nominees. Tell me one liberal Supreme Court nominee that that has been harmed by this supposed "damaged national political culture". Borking has become hugely beneficial to the Left. Far from being ashamed of this practice - they love it.
Sophisticated people don't think people who disagree with them on value choices are "missing a few chips".
Peggy better go back for another read on these guys. They're putting files together on people, they want to pull together everybody's medical files (and presumably let Anthony Marceca and Craig Livingstone go through them for good chewy bits), and they play brass-knuckled Chicago politics.
How saintly can these guys be? But Peggy's giving them a real five-dollar shoeshine.
Come on, Noonan, snap up. Go spend an hour watching Nancy Pelosi stumble through a presser. Or watch Rahm and Paul Begala and Snakehead and Clintonopoulos sit hugger-mugger around a table, polishing their brass knuckles and planning their next press mugging. Tune in a bit.
Good grief. Peggy must be drinking the same stuff Mo Dowd is drinking. She sounds more and more like her every day.
What a crock!
