Fox News Channel host Bill O'Reilly responded on The Factor tonight to criticisms of his attacks last night on Free Republic and Hot Air by the sites' respective founders, Jim Robinson and Michelle Malkin. The segment last night was on reaction by right and left wing websites on the Judge Sotomayor nomination to the Supreme Court. Free Republic was singled out for an obnoxious comment about Sotomayor being diabetic. Hot Air was singled out for an impolitic strongly worded appeal to block her nomination.
O'Reilly noted Malkin's reaction made on Fox and Friends this morning and Robinson's comments which were posted on Free Republic and e-mailed to The Factor.
O'Reilly agreed that both had points but that the sites should better monitor their comments as he does at his site and that O'Reilly would hold both right and left wing sites accountable.
Hot Air complained that the comment singled out by O'Reilly was labeled a 'blog' entry rather than a comment, thereby leaving the impression it was made by one of the site's official posters.
Jim Robinson's response was boiled down to Jim calling O'Reilly "an elitist gasbag" and noting that offending comments sometimes get past the moderators. O'Reilly did not inform his viewers that Mr. Robinson is a diabetic who has lost family to the disease.
The segment aired about forty minutes into the program tonight.
FR threads one and two.
Video of last night's Factor segment.
Michelle Malkin on Fox and Friends.
Yes, Jim. Tsk, tsk, tsk. You just need to do a better job of moderating. Bill has spoken.
Blimey.
Beck's strength is that he's new, bright, hip, techno-savvy, fun, unbelievably insightful, and extremely well informed.
O'Reilly's strength is that he's a master of the old media, it's heavy-weights, its forms and style, and it's "gentlemanliness."
The bottom line -- Beck is the future. No way they can give Beck O'Reilly's time slot....but they can give him the 7 PM slot of Shepard "Katrina Histrionics" Smith!
That would enable a legitimate comparison of Beck and BO.
O’Reily who?
BO was so proud that the “smear merchants” at Media Matters gave him kudos for dismissing the ACORN/Census story the other night. As if Media Matters momentarily ceased to be a “vicious hate site” just long enough to pat Bill on the back for a job “well done”.
I wonder how he’d like it if Stormfront started giving him props.
Don’t dare mess with Bill O’Reilly.
If you make him angry, he’ll just demand phone sex from you!
He threw softballs at them.
“O’Reilly agreed that both had points but that the sites should better monitor their comments as he does at his site and that O’Reilly would hold both right and left wing sites accountable.”
Mr. O’ Reilly thinks highly of himself doesn’t he.
Yes, he was soft on them. Annoyingly so.
And he will loofa your ass!
As if he personally moderates his site.
Have any of ya’ll been on the FoxNation message board site? Its nothing but bickering between posters with lots of foul and racist language allowed to stand. No one is monitoring that website. Shame on BOR for not criticizing his own network's site before he condemn others.
He is being the "Supreme Admin Moderator" in his view.
BOR,like Bush, went to Harvard Grad. school.
O'Reilly, there's no comparison between leftists sites and Free Republic in vitriolic comments made. You're comparing an amoeba to a multi-cellular animal for lack of a good analogy, with FR being the one cell amoeba. Do yourself a favor Bill, spend some time reading their comments of what they said about the previous administration then you'll understand.
What’s the controversy?
O’Reilly IS an elitist gas-bag... on his good days!
The worst is Beckel!
What do you bet that his show tomorrow night mentions FR and the word "vitriol" in the same breath?
Somebody let me know as I will not be watching. I've had enough of him and his RUDE talking over guests.. especially female ones.
I keep hoping Megyn Kelly will call him out on that crap.
This man has some nerve. Here he is, the insane man who threatened to, you know, spit on me, last night, complaining that the extremes on both sides of the political debate are guilty of coarsening the debate. Thanks to Allahpundit for clipping the unstomach-able clip.
Michelle Malkin quits O'Reilly after nasty three-way
We guess Michelle Malkin won't be coming to town to guest-host for Bill O'Reilly anymore. She just quit forever, after a three-way conservative-pundit street fight that has left our minds reeling a little bit. For those weren't paying attention (we weren't, until now), what happened was this: Crazy attention whore Geraldo Rivera told the Boston Globe that crazy attention whore Malkin was "the most vile, hateful commentator I've ever met
Its good shes in D.C. and Im in N.Y. Id spit on her if I saw her. Later, when O'Reilly asked him if he wanted to say something about it on the show because, he said, Malkin's "feelings were hurt." (Saying this he came across, weirdly, as almost grandfatherly and sane.) Rivera did apologized for his "ungentlemanly" and "ungallant" words "I never spit!" he said but couldn't help qualifying that he disagreed with everything Malkin said and basically indicating that he thought she was an asshole.
