Fox News Channel host Bill O'Reilly responded on The Factor tonight to criticisms of his attacks last night on Free Republic and Hot Air by the sites' respective founders, Jim Robinson and Michelle Malkin. The segment last night was on reaction by right and left wing websites on the Judge Sotomayor nomination to the Supreme Court. Free Republic was singled out for an obnoxious comment about Sotomayor being diabetic. Hot Air was singled out for an impolitic strongly worded appeal to block her nomination.
O'Reilly noted Malkin's reaction made on Fox and Friends this morning and Robinson's comments which were posted on Free Republic and e-mailed to The Factor.
O'Reilly agreed that both had points but that the sites should better monitor their comments as he does at his site and that O'Reilly would hold both right and left wing sites accountable.
Hot Air complained that the comment singled out by O'Reilly was labeled a 'blog' entry rather than a comment, thereby leaving the impression it was made by one of the site's official posters.
Jim Robinson's response was boiled down to Jim calling O'Reilly "an elitist gasbag" and noting that offending comments sometimes get past the moderators. O'Reilly did not inform his viewers that Mr. Robinson is a diabetic who has lost family to the disease.
The segment aired about forty minutes into the program tonight.
FR threads one and two.
Video of last night's Factor segment.
Michelle Malkin on Fox and Friends.
At the same time I do understand that it is hard for the moderators to be able to catch all the disgusting comments that are made.
Also though it seems that Jim Robinson in some ways is no better then O'Reilly by resorting to name calling and calling him a “an elitist gasbag”. In this case neither man showed much class.
Beat me by 5 seconds.
I used to be a big fan of Laura until her interview with Arlen Specter when she was going to call him out and instead, he most condescendingly and with great derision called her a “young lady” and she rolled over, whimpering, like a whipped puppy. Ann Coulter never would have put up with that.
You can say that again. Waste of time. My head nearly exploded when the acorn lady said we live in a democracy, AND MR. KNOW IT ALL LET IT SLIDE! Does he not know we live in a REPUBLIC? How do these folks make millions and I live week to week? Sheesh!
I bet that acorn lady would have said, HUH? Whats a republic? Apparently, so would O’Reilly, since he didn’t call her on it......
He should be stocked, infinitely, with dimethicone.
BILL: By the way, we also heard from Jim Robinson who runs the right wing Free Republic and he said some personal comments do get through their filter, which is understandable happens to us too. Jim then went on to call me an elite gasbag...(cameraman chuckling along with Bill) I guess that’s better than a run-of-the-mill gasbag.
That was funny. He looked to Luntz for some reinforcement and instead Luntz called him a “Teddy Bear”. I wonder what Luntz was really thinking.
Bill OReilly is a jerk!
Honestly, folks, and I’ve watched O’Reilly for some time, and I still do listen to him while I surf the net, because my background TV is generally tuned to Fox, the quality of MOST Fox news programs has really nose-dived WITH THE EXCEPTION of the new Glen Beck show.
Whether O’Reilly, Hannity, Baird, you name it, they all use these cycled and recycled talking heads like Morris, Newt, Huck, and each other, and it just gets a little boring.
The other major failure, imho, is their use of certified spokespersons from the major party camps. No matter who they are, you can be certain that they will SPOUT ENDLESSLY their party’s talking points.
Please, please, please, OH God, please make them stop putting the mindless robots on Fox News. Please have them pick out some conservatives or liberals NOT ASSOCIATED with the parties, not Dem “consultants”, and not “Fox” associates, and let us hear what truly thoughtful people have to say.
Fair and balanced spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning....
LOL, man, O’Reilly is one sick puppy.
Your comments are rude.
It’s now way past time that Fox News fires this bloviating, âIt’s all about meâ windbag who no longer provides viewers a âNO Spin Zoneâ as advertised. He does nothing but throw up softballs to the opposition these days in an attempt to placate The One’s administration in order to keep his job. Hey BO (No, not Obama), I’m done with you and your lies.
We’ve decided to start recording Beck and playing it during BO since we’re not home when Beck comes on and we get stuck watching BO. If my husband hears BO remark how “brillant” Obama is, like it’s a known fact, the TV is going out the window. There was no reason for him to run that segment last night except to cause a stink, he must read the blogs and knows everyone thinks he’s an elitist gasbag. Or he’s jealous we’re not all over at his stupid blog. Personally his “pervert segment” pisses me off. I don’t like thinking of sex and BO at the same time. Eeewww!
When are they going to replace this gasbag with the vastly superior Glenn Beck.
At least Glenn doesn’t drink his own bath water.
Two words for Billy: Andrea Mackris
You nailed it, Chaplin.
It’s BOTH!
Besides, is anyone more in love with himself than BOR?
The near “R” rating of his show was the last straw for my Family. Up until then I could only slightly stomach his arrogance.
I still don’t understand the ratings of that show.
We know this Sotomayor should be subjected to intense scrutiny ~ not because diabetics aren't intellectually the equal of the best, but because the care and treatment of diabetes by the affected diabetics is a serious concern.
For example we ~ as diabetics ~ want to know why this woman with Type 1 has gotten chubby. We want to know about these stories of her flying off the handle in court, and being intemperate. Is she using her insulin properly. Does she exercise enough. How about the secondary effects ~ remember, she had diabetes for the last 47 years and that means she had it in a period of time where virtually nothing was known about it other than that you could inject insulin and avoid dropping dead.
Judge Bork's smoking habit was questioned. Sotomayor's insulin use should also be questioned.
Our questions have nothing to do with her politics, just the way she may be mistreating her body and thereby endangering her ability to render well reasoned decisions. We already know the other Liberals on the court are unable to render well reasoned deisions, but no one ever bothered to find out why that was the case with them. What we can't take is another inadequate Liberal on the court. If necessary body cavity checks are not out of line. Too much is at stake.
