Alaska Wildlife Troopers ran a widespread bust targeting illegal clam diggers on Kenai Peninsula beaches over Memorial Day weekend, citing at least 22 people for misconduct with mollusks.
Unusually low tides, the holiday weekend and the irresistible lure of fresh clams drew hundreds of mud-diggers to Kenai Peninsula beaches over the three-day weekend. Soldotna wildlife trooper Sgt. Paul McConnell said the law was out in full force to watch.
Violations included taking undersized or too many clams and clamming without a fishing license.
"It was good timing as far as a three-day weekend, people kind of head down there anyway for Memorial Day weekend, and the tides just fell at the right time too, so it's probably pretty popular right now," troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said.

New moon tides are not unusually low. The lowest tides of the year were the perigee tides that occurred back in January. Maybe so, but not many people want to go clamming in January.

I do! And I have! I actually would have preferred more water, as the water in January is warmer than the air.
It’s nice to have very little company while clamming, and it’s very quiet and pretty in the snow. It just takes a little more gear, preparation and precaution.
I swear, they also taste better in winter!

What Alaska has something like 50,000 miles of beach front. God forbid a mile of beach loses 1% of its Alaska’s Citizens Clams.

We catch illegals using nets to scope up fish during White bass season here in SC Texas. Illegals doing illegal things.
That’s why asked.

So, anyone should be allowed to dig as many clams of any size as they want? Anyone should be allowed to catch as many fish as they wish, no matter size or type? Anyone should be allowed to shoot any animal they wish with no season?

Answer your own strawman construction.
Is there a bio-diversity shortage of clams along the Alaskan coast?
How about allocating the state’s human resources where there is a need?
Have all or most rapes, murders been solved in Alaska?
Cops arresting people pulling statistically non measurible small percentage of clams, or doing cold case murder investigantions?
Murder, or a bushel of clams?( actually the paperwork for clams.)
