Obama chooses naked politics. Hispanic female and we’re double dared to call her an intellectual lightweight or liberal airhead.

Obviously he felt he couldn’t “snub” woman or Hispanics.

We now have a nice insight into his thought process.

Too bad - I’d highly recommend subscribing to IBD - it is a great publication.

She’s probably as good of a nominee as we could ever hope to get from Obama, understanding we’re not going to get someone conservative or even terribly moderate. If she goes down from scanal, whoever else he would dig up would probably be far more to the left.

When President Bush met with congressional Democrats to take their input on who an acceptable conservative candidate to them might be, she was their suggestion. The suggestion was declined, since she is NOT conservative. But the nomination was reasonable enough to elicit alarm that Bush might actually nominate her; She was a George HW Bush nominee to a lower court in 1991. (Her current position, however, was appointed by President Clinton, so she wasn’t too conservative for him!)

Although conservatives are right to be troubled by most federal judges’ interpretation of the Constitution, from a viewpoint of positions held, overturned cases, etc., she seems quite qualified.

I dropped the WSJ for the IBD at the first of the year.

3rd Q of the WSJ was nothing but a echo chamber for DemocRat talking points.

Sotomayor:

” And I wonder whether by ignoring our differences as women or men of color we do a disservice both to the law and society. Whatever the reasons... we may have different perspectives, either as some theorists suggest because of our cultural experiences or as others postulate because WE HAVE BASIC DIFFERENCES IN LOGIC AND REASONING...

“Our experiences as women and people of color affect our decisions. The aspiration to impartiality is just that — it’s an aspiration because it denies the fact that we are by our experiences making different choices than others....

“Whether born from experience or INHERENT PHYSIOLOGICAL or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice [Sandra Day] O’Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases.... I am... not so sure that I agree with the statement.

“First... there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

Two, if anyone opposes her, they’re obviously a racist.

Yes, you have that correct, but if Bush had appointed Janice Rodgers Brown to the SC, he would have chastised to no end and she would never made it through the confirmation process. The swimmer would have been screaming that she is a right wing extremist.

AB Princeton, Yale Law, appoined to the Federal bench by Bush 41, elevated to the second district Court of Appeals by Slick Willy. She’s not been a bombthrower and qualifications are hard to dispute.

That's what I found, too. The WSJ's news coverage is as liberally-slanted as the Washington Post's. It's not quite as bad as the New York Times, but then again: who is? The Journal's editorial page and op-ed section is its only saving grace. By way of contrast, IBD doesn't appear to hire wooly-headed J-Schoool graduates but relies instead on business reporting by people who actually understand (and do not hate) business.

Better only in the sense that she’s not bright enough to convince the squishy Anthony Kennedy to vote for her side.

In a sense, she’s a fair replacement for Souter. Both were clearly intellectual lightweights.

Wait until Stevens or Ginsberg retires/kicks the bucket. Then we’ll get a powerhouse leftie like Diane Wood. Forget about the rule of law. With Obama, it will be the rule of “empathy” for the disadvantaged.

I think she was appointed to the court of appeals by George Bush I.....

So we all know what the Bush family believes, so screw Jeb Bush.

IBD does have one column every day, subtitled “from the left”

that I’ll read if my blood pressure isn’t high enough...
:)

Recently, the one comparing ‘bammy and Dick Cheney was particularly infuriating.
